What are the responsibilities and job description for the Intern - Code & Planning Department position at Township of Pine, Allegheny County, PA?
The Code & Planning Intern will assist Pine Township in the development of a Township Comprehensive Plan that prioritizes projects and goals for the next 10 years related to transportation, parks & recreation, environmental sustainability & preservation, housing & affordability, economic development, land use and communications. The intern will have exposure to grand funding, budgeting, public speaking, technical writing and website development. - Comprehensive Plan Update
- Assist with community engagement activities and implementing creative engagement strategies
- Assist in project evaluation and prioritization
- Assist in completing project and application evaluations from 2016-2024
- Attend public meetings, stakeholder meetings, and community events as needed
- Participate in meetings and sessions with staff and planning consultant
- Property File Scanning:
- Review, scan, and save property files into Laserfiche software for accurate documentation of inspections.
- Work with the Director of Code & Planning and Code Support Assistant to coordinate document filing
- Additional Planning Opportunities:
- Assist in growing and educating residents about existing and upcoming environmental programs and initiatives
- Attend Planning Commission, Environmental Advisory Council, Zoning Hearing Board, and Board of Supervisors meetings
- Visit land development job sites
- Shadow code enforcement inspections
- Perform other departmental duties as assigned
- Perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs.

- Attend company meetings and educational seminars.
- Actively enrolled with institutional study for Bachelors or Masters Degree in Planning, Urban Studies, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Services, Engineering, Political Science, Government or other related fields.
- 0-1 year of experience in related field.
- Child Abuse Clearances as required by State of Pennsylvania.
