New Internship Opportunity - Code & Planning Department!

Monday - Friday : Occasional Evening Meetings : Flexible Schedule : Up To 40 Hours Per Week

The Code & Planning Intern will assist Pine Township in the development of a Township Comprehensive Plan that prioritizes projects and goals for the next 10 years related to transportation, parks & recreation, environmental sustainability & preservation, housing & affordability, economic development, land use and communications. The intern will have exposure to grand funding, budgeting, public speaking, technical writing and website development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to):

  • Comprehensive Plan Update
    1. Assist with community engagement activities and implementing creative engagement strategies
    2. Assist in project evaluation and prioritization
    3. Assist in completing project and application evaluations from 2016-2024
    4. Attend public meetings, stakeholder meetings, and community events as needed
    5. Participate in meetings and sessions with staff and planning consultant
  • Property File Scanning:
    1. Review, scan, and save property files into Laserfiche software for accurate documentation of inspections.
    2. Work with the Director of Code & Planning and Code Support Assistant to coordinate document filing
  • Additional Planning Opportunities:
    1. Assist in growing and educating residents about existing and upcoming environmental programs and initiatives
    2. Attend Planning Commission, Environmental Advisory Council, Zoning Hearing Board, and Board of Supervisors meetings
    3. Visit land development job sites
    4. Shadow code enforcement inspections
  • Perform other departmental duties as assigned

  • Working knowledge of MS Office, database systems, and ability to learn new software.

  • Adapt to changing work situations or assignments.
  • Report all safety concerns and operating issues to the assigned Department Head.
  • Follow all safety protocols and guidelines and report any problems, operational issues, facility needs and feedback.
  • Attend company meetings and educational seminars.

Requirements:

  • Actively enrolled with institutional study for Bachelors or Masters Degree in Planning, Urban Studies, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Services, Engineering, Political Science, Government or other related fields.
  • 0-1 year of experience in related field.
  • Child Abuse Clearances as required by State of Pennsylvania.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly and frequently required to stand, kneel, bend, crouch, walk, stop and talk; read; hear; use hands and fingers to handle, grasp, and feel for operating equipment; reach with hands and arms, and lift up to 25 pounds. The specific vision abilities required for this position include close, distance, and peripheral vision abilities. The noise level in this position ranges from moderate to loud. Exposure to outdoor seasonal elements, related temperatures and direct sunlight. Driving an automobile with assignment location change.

Visual Demands: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, and visual cues or signals.

Environmental Factors: Tasks may require exposure to such environmental conditions as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, toxic agents, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances.

Mental Demands:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be required to use written and oral communication skills; observe and interpret situations; read and interpret information and documents, analyze, assess, and report work assignment difficulties; use math and complete simple mathematical tasks; work with constant interruptions; and interact with Township officials, employees, and the public.
