POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for the daily management and supervision of a designated activity area of camp. Will plan, organize, and execute age-appropriate activities for campers in grades 1-7 in accordance with the designated activity area: sports, arts and crafts, nature, STEM, media, administration, etc. The Camp & Activity Director works under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor.
The Upper St. Clair Community & Recreation Center provides our members and guests with a comprehensive range of recreation services including fitness programs, swim programs (indoor and outdoor), summer camps, youth programs, older adult programs, and more.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plans, organizes, and implements a variety of activities for each group of campers to engage them physically, emotionally, and creatively.
- Use self-motivation in daily planning and execution of activities while also utilizing flexibility and teamwork.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment including all supplies and materials of program area.
- Ensure the safety and physical and emotional wellbeing of all campers while in their area.
- Respect the equipment and property of Camp St. Clair and enforce proper usage to campers.
- Create a fun, welcoming atmosphere in which campers can feel happy, secure, and grow.
- Assist Camp Counselor in resolving camper conflicts within designated activity area.
- Adheres to and upholds all camp rules and regulations.
- Communicate in a professional manner with Camp Counselors, Camp Directors, and Recreation Supervisor.
- Actively participate in camp games, activities, and programs alongside campers when appropriate.
- Ability to follow and give oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees and the public.
- Ability to concentrate and accomplish tasks despite interruptions.
- Ability to work with minimal daily supervision.
QUALIFICATIONS
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Desire to work with preschool or school age children indoors and outdoors in a summer camp setting.
- Willing to wear appropriate swim attire as directed and get in the water to assist lifeguards with the supervision of campers during possible pool days.
- Ability to lead and direct children in a positive manner.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other counselors.
- Ability to communicate effectively with children, counselors, Camp Directors, and parents.
- Ability to separate and create a balance between work and personal life.
- Ability to set a good example for campers in behavior, cleanliness, and appearance.
Education, Experience, and Certifications
- Experience with children of preschool or school age.
- Must be at least age 18 by June 9, 2025.
- Must have at least one (1) year of relatable leadership experience.
- Must possess a current CPR certification or the ability to become CPR certified through the Community & Recreation Center by June 9, 2025.
- Must secure FBI, Child Abuse, and Criminal History Clearances before start date.
