About the Job:
As a mechanical test engineer, this associate will be responsible for test planning, development, scheduling, execution, data processing and communication with design and quality teams. This role is critical in evaluating the quality of design on various Toyota forklifts and technologies associated.
What You'll Be Doing:
In this role you will perform functions including:
- Participate in TMH's FMEA process and interpret test requirements from design teams to develop test specifications and test plans.
- Responsible for planning and developing the Battery and truck Test Strategy. Study the next generation component and system level designs for heavy equipment projects.
- Work with the Design and other test Engineers to review test standards, old test reports and decide on tests to be performed.
- Confer with Quality Assurance team, Development and Product Management to participate in project planning and ensure the effective testing within design constraints.
- Draft the test plans and meet with design engineers and quality team members to confirm the details of the test plan.
- Design and document the fixtures required for testing using the training and processflow provided.
- Plan and specify equipment required for truck-level testing, component, and system level testing.
- Acquire and process test data, analyze the results and provide engineering interpretations.
- Review test reports completed by test technicians.
- Update project related data as required in applicable systems and ensure timely reporting and response to stakeholders.
- Interpreting test data and performing root cause analysis in case of any failures. Countermeasure testing related issues as they arise through the issue tracking process flow. Work with design team to countermeasure any test that doesn't meet criteria.
- Database management for test results, test data analysis (using n-code, MATLAB, Excel, or other tools).
- Select proper sensors to acquire the data.
- Participate in the development of new test procedures as required.
- Assist in basic electrical or system related testing as required.
- Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
- Additional duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For:
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field of study. MS Preferred
- Prefer 2 years of experience in test engineering roles in a major OEM. System level test experience preferred.
- Experience with component, fatigue, and mechanical system related test characterizations.
- Background in Vibration, fatigue, thermal, stress, durability, and environmental testing.
- Working knowledge of control systems and electrical subsystems. Experience with CANBus protocols and testing. Experience with testing controllers, motor drivers or similar electro-mechanical components is highly preferred.
- Possess the technical ability to read, evaluate, understand, and communicate data from prints and technical standard documents.
- Understanding of Design of Experiments and Accelerated Life Testing principles.
- Ability to participate and take initiatives to drive process improvements activities.
- Experienced in constructing complex project schedules involving timelines, manpower and resources.
- Understanding of product life cycles, and application of relevant test methodologies.
- Experience with sensor technologies
- Experience with n-Code or other data processing software.
- Excellent team player with strong communication skills both written and verbal.
- Strong project management experience and leadership skills.
- Ability to travel (<10%) to support testing, customer, or supplier visits.
