As part of TRI’s Large Behavior Models (LBM) Division, the Platform and Hands & Whole-Body Sensing Teams are focused on developing hardware and software to support capable, contact-rich manipulation research.

We are currently looking for a passionate Mechanical Engineering Co-op to make significant contributions to our robot hardware development and testing! Please note that applicants must be available for a six-month onsite co-op starting between January and May.


Responsibilities
  • Design, fabricate, order, and assemble robotic systems and test spaces, including structural, electromechanical, and soft-sensing components.
  • Maintain regular contact with team members to support their needs and requirements.
  • Help maintain a safe, clean, and effective robotics lab environment.
  • Run, document, and clearly communicate testing activities, conditions, and results.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned.


Qualifications
  • Engineering student (undergrad or master’s, any year).
  • Understanding of common robot sensors and mechanical components.
  • Experience using common rapid prototyping techniques and equipment.
  • Exposure to mechanical CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks or Onshape).
  • Experience designing, executing, and summarizing system tests.
  • Desire to deploy and test robots both inside and outside of the lab.
  • Willingness to communicate and ask questions when in doubt.


Bonus Qualifications
  • Exposure to electrical CAD software (e.g. Altium) and electronics debugging.
  • University or work experience in a robotics lab or company.
  • Programming experience in MATLAB, Python, C , or similar.
