Accountable to the Board Chair and Board of Directors for the effective and efficient operation of the Habitat for Humanity affiliate of Tacoma-Pierce County, WA and for conformity with its bylaws and policies agreed upon by the Board.
Provides vision and leadership to Habitat for Humanity, the Board of Directors and Senior Leadership Team, and staff. Manages and directs the organization towards its primary objectives, based on the affiliate’s long-term strategic plan & initiatives and by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate managers. Maintains a strong advocacy for Habitat’s Mission to provide decent, affordable housing for our service area.
The focus of this job is on achieving results which are aligned with the larger picture of the organization and its strategic goals. Initiative, drive, and the ability to stay focused on results despite changing conditions, is the key to achieving the performance objectives of this job. Decision-making is focused on implementing practical, timely solutions. The job requires getting things done quickly and handling a variety of activities. The work involves innovation and creativity in generating ideas for quick response. Self-assurance and the confidence to purposely drive toward results while constantly problem-solving and engaging the commitment of others is essential. A leadership style that is firm and goal oriented, and yet motivates, trains, and engages others in an enthusiastic way is important. The emphasis on building rapport and relationships with individuals and groups requires an outgoing, poised and persuasive communication style.
Essential Functions
Fund Raising and Advocacy :
- Acts as the affiliate's primary fundraiser, working with the development staff, board's development committee, and board to steward existing donors and develop new resources for the affiliate.
- Acts to establish and maintain highly effective donor relations under all organization programs.
- Represents the affiliate in the community through direct public relations programs, including personal contact, community leaders, literature, and media.
- Develops and maintains strong relationships with community leaders and affordable housing partners operating in the public and private sector to advocate and build support for affordable housing both legislatively and financially.
- Represents the Affiliate to Habitat for Humanity International and ensures compliance with the Covenant Agreement as well as other required policies.
- Represents and advocates as the public face of the affiliate to national, state and local organizations, municipalities and jurisdictions.

Minimum Education, Experience and Skills
Language Skills : Ability to effectively present complex information to elected officials, board of directors and community partners. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret contracts and legal documents. Ability to effectively present information to top management, the public and / or board of directors. Possesses public speaking skills and an ability to engage in public dialogue.
Reasoning Ability : Ability to solve complex problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to understand and manage risk.
Computer Skills : Strong computer skills, including spreadsheets, word processing, presentations and email. Proficiency with computer usage, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
