Engineering Technician 1/ CAD Designer
Location: Must reside within 50 miles of any Black & Veatch office in the U.S. and be available to work on-site at least three days per week.
Work Schedule: Hybrid (3 days onsite, 2 days remote per week)
Job Type: 6-Month Contract to Hire
Job Summary:
Black & Veatch is seeking entry-level Engineering Technicians with a focus on AutoCAD Electrical and other CAD platforms. This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates or individuals with 1–2 years of industry experience or relevant internships. Under close supervision, you will support engineering teams by creating or modifying technical drawings and deliverables for civil, structural, and primarily electrical design projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize AutoCAD (all versions), AutoCAD Electrical, MicroStation, Revit, and Inventor to create and modify electrical drawings, including layouts, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Follow established engineering standards, procedures, and document control processes.
- Support engineering production with technical deliverables based on design input.
- Ensure accuracy and compliance with Black & Veatch quality standards.
- Develop knowledge of internal tools, standards, and departmental guidelines.
- Collaborate with internal teams to understand project requirements and deliver on schedule.
- Apply basic problem-solving skills and seek opportunities for personal development and process improvement.
Preferred Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with CAD software, including AutoCAD Electrical and MicroStation.
- Basic understanding of engineering design principles and drafting standards.
- Familiarity with Bluebeam (preferred, but not required).
- Knowledge of document control systems and quality assurance procedures.
Preferred Non-Technical Skills:
- Strong time management and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication and listening skills.
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to new tools and technologies.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or Certificate in Drafting or Engineering Design Technology preferred.
- Associate Degree in a relevant technical field is a plus.
- 1–2 years of relevant experience, including internships.
- Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
- Successful completion of pre-employment screening, including background check and drug testing, as required by local laws and regulations.
