GIS Technician

Location: Jackson, MI 49201
Work Schedule: Hybrid (Onsite Monday, Tuesday, Thursday)
Position Overview:
The Gas Distribution Technician within the Gas Distribution Geospatial Management & Analytics Team is responsible for entering gas distribution work orders into the Enterprise GIS Database and maintaining and enhancing existing data. The technician will interpret construction drawings and as-built information to determine completed work and update the Gas Distribution Geospatial Information System (GIS) accordingly using ESRI ArcGIS software.
This role requires collaboration with various internal resources to verify completed work, resolve data inconsistencies, and perform asset analysis upon request. Additionally, the technician will generate specialized maps utilizing spatial analysis techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
- Input and maintain gas distribution data within the Enterprise GIS Database.
- Interpret construction drawings and as-built information to ensure accurate data entry.
- Utilize ESRI ArcGIS software to update and analyze GIS data.
- Collaborate with internal teams to verify completed work and resolve record discrepancies.
- Perform asset analysis and generate specialized maps using spatial analysis techniques.
- Ensure data accuracy and maintain database integrity.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proficiency in GIS software, particularly ESRI ArcGIS.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret construction drawings.
- Strong data entry skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Windows OS and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Logical thinking, self-motivated, and capable of working with minimal supervision.
- Ability to learn new systems, skills, and procedures effectively.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in database integration and GIS data maintenance.
- Knowledge of spatial analysis techniques and GIS mapping principles.
- Background in gas distribution systems or utility mapping.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Certificate in GIS or a related field.
- Experience with GIS mapping, data maintenance, and enterprise GIS systems.
