JOB SUMMARY

The Maintenance Worker reports to the Program Director and is in charge of program maintenance and will address the physical/maintenance needs of the facility. 

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Conduct regular property walkthroughs to identify maintenance needs, program rule violations, safety hazards, and areas for improvement.
  2. Perform timely repairs on furniture, plumbing, electrical fixtures, walls, doors, and other shelter structures or systems.
  3. Patch, paint, and refurbish shelter spaces to ensure a clean and welcoming environment for residents.
  4. Assess project needs, estimate completion timelines, manpower requirements, and material costs.
  5. Purchase necessary materials and supplies while maintaining cost efficiency and quality.
  6. Maintain and service tools, equipment, and shelter systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and appliances, ensuring they remain in safe working order.
  7. Identify and report unsafe working conditions, hazards, or property risks, and recommend safety enhancements.
  8. Respond quickly and effectively to emergency repair needs, such as leaks, power outages, or property damage, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
  9. Evaluate when outside contractors are needed for larger or specialized projects, coordinate their work, and ensure satisfactory completion.
  10. Collaborate with shelter staff to minimize disruptions during repairs and communicate progress updates.
  11. Attend program staff meetings to provide updates on property conditions, completed projects, and upcoming repair needs.
  12. Keep accurate records of completed repairs, inspections, and equipment servicing, and report to supervisors as required.
  13. Maintain a well-organized inventory of tools, equipment, and spare parts for ongoing maintenance needs.
  14. Proactively identify opportunities to enhance the functionality, safety, and appearance of the shelter property.
  15. Demonstrate professionalism, patience, and empathy when interacting with shelter residents during maintenance activities.
  16. Think and act quickly in emergencies to maintain a safe environment for staff and residents.
  17. Will drive on Agency business.
  18. Physical presence at the worksites is required Monday – Friday 8AM-5PM with a 1 hour meal break.                                                                                                      

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

  1. High school diploma or GED required.
  2. Possess verbal and written communication skills.
  3. Report program rule violations when observed.
  4. Good general knowledge and skills in the areas of carpentry, plumbing, electrical and other skills relevant to general maintenance.
  5. Must have knowledge of tools to perform maintenance functions.
  6. Ability to use the equipment necessary to complete the responsibilities of the job.
  7. Basic computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, Office 365, Teams, Zoom and other communication/meeting platforms.
  8. Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a dependable means of transportation that is properly insured and operated in accordance with all laws. Agency insurer authorization is required. 
  9. Ability to pass a criminal background check.
  10. Ability to pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen, general physical, and TB test.

COMPANY BENEFITS:

  • Pay Range: Class 105 ($17.14 - $21.68/hour)
  • Company paid benefits package including medical, dental, vision, Employee Assistance Program, Pension Fund and many other voluntary benefits
  • Qualified non-profit for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program
  • Regular work schedule (Monday through Friday, 8am - 5pm)
