Overview:
The Estimating Manager is responsible for overseeing our estimating services for the purpose of delivering safe, cost-effective and quality estimates for our Pipe Fabrication and Construction services.
Responsibilities:
- Gathering and log in of all client/owner provided bid packages.
- Assign and coordinate necessary individuals to attend pre-bid meetings
- Analyze Drawings, Scope of Work, specifications, and related documents
- Determine preliminary estimated project value
- Submit intent to bids
- Determine style of contract – (ex. Lump sum, cost reimbursable/fixed fee, T & M, etc.)
- Provide project feedback to Management & Business Development Group
- Assign and review package with Project Estimators
- Coordinate with Operations in determining project execution strategy
- Coordinate proposal deliverables and project specific information with other company groups such as Safety & QA/QC
- Coordinate project specific schedule requirements with Scheduling team – follow up with final schedule logic/durations/man power requirements
- Assist Estimators with setting up proper sort codes when performing takeoffs
- Audit quantity takeoffs for accuracy
- Assist in determining accurate labor productivities, crew make-ups and labor rates
- Assist in developing necessary project organizational charts, equipment utilization, indirect labor, temporary facility requirements, and all preliminary schedule logic
- Perform daily rounds within the estimating group to measure takeoff/estimate/proposal progress & provide routine guidance/answer questions
- Set up necessary estimate review meetings with Management
- Assist Estimator with reviewing and modifying proposal clarifications
- Assist Estimators in completing cost breakdowns once estimates are completed.
- Check final draft of Proposal and Submit proposals once they are completed
- Follow up with clients on status of project awards
- Maintaining and updating proposal status reports
- Maintain above items based on the circulation of new bid packages
- Attend project kick-off meetings with our Operations Team and Client/Owner when required
- Assist with project set-up after project award, assuring smooth transfer of estimate/contract strategy information to Operations
- Coordinate Estimating assistance for larger project specific related change orders, Bid vs. IFC’s, or True-ups
- Periodically reviews and suggests updates in estimating policies, standards and procedures
- Comply with all Company Core Safety Rules, policies and procedures.
- Report any unsafe conditions wherever they exist to the safety department, their supervisor, or the management of Trade Construction immediately.
- Report all incidents/accidents/injuries involving the health and wellbeing of any employee to management immediately.
Qualifications:
- Degree in industrial related field is preferred
- 5 to 10 years of experience in similar environment
- Hands on knowledge of pipe fabrication, civil & mechanical construction
- Detailed knowledge of estimating fundamentals and construction logic
- Proven Managerial skills
- Demonstrated skills in written and verbal communication, formal letters, speaking in front of large groups
- Working knowledge of personal computers and software applications - proficient in Excel
- Proficient in reading and interpreting various types of construction drawings and specifications
- Excellent organizational, planning and time management
- General understanding of Fixed Price, Time & Material, and Unit contract pricing mechanisms
- Professional ability to work well with client personnel
- High Energy, Self-motivated and proactive by nature
- Demonstrated negotiating and decision-making skills
