The Senior Estimator will support the Estimating team in developing and preparing timely estimates and bid proposals in a fast-paced environment. This person will work with the other team members and their supervisor on getting pricing out to the customer, reviewing specifications and structural engineering plans, get pricing from manufacturers for estimates/quotes preparation, and help with Request for Quotes.
Responsibilities
- Review DOT websites for new jobs
- Prepare and review quotes/estimate sheets in a clear, concise and well justified format for client submission
- Field customer requests for quotes and create detailed breakdowns of project costs
- Interact with suppliers and/or purchasing department to obtain pricing information, and secure competitive quotes for materials and components as needed
- Review specifications/structural engineering plans and send them to manufacturers to help prepare quotes/estimates while accurately assessing:
- Required labor hours and skill levels
- Equipment costs
- Quantity, size, and cost of materials
- Overhead
- Market fluctuations
- Profit margins
- Potential risks & uncertainties
- Contingency planning into costs
- Work in applicable software to track schedules and deadlines
- Proactively partner with other team members and/or management to sort out pricing internally by reviewing mark-ups and quotes
- Maintain in-depth, working knowledge of relevant technical standards, manufacturing processes, and industry practices
- Serve as a critical link between engineering, purchasing, and project management by ensuring cost estimates are aligned with client needs and project requirements.
- Any and all remaining prep work that goes into putting an estimate together
- Any other duties as supervisor or the President/CEO may required
Position QualificationsCompetencies & Skills:

- Excellent attention to detail, required
- Personal organizational skills, with specific focused attention to detail necessary to succeed
- Must be able to speak fluent, English, non – negotiable
- Ability to listen, understand, and follow directions accurately and completely are needed
- Communication and teamwork skills with a positive demeanor is required
- Must be willing to learn new technologies and be self-motivated to increase knowledge
- Strong with MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and Adobe
- Must be tech savvy and able to navigate the internet and computer systems
- Strong work ethics are a must
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferred
- 3-5 years of experience working with an estimation department, required
- Experience reviewing technical details, reading blueprints/schematics, and specification plan sheets, required
- Experience with pricing; strong math aptitude and pricing, required
- 5 years of hands-on electronics hardware and wiring experience, highly preferred
- Prior knowledge of cost estimating software and tools, highly preferred
- Understanding of relevant industry standards and regulations, highly preferred but not required
- Quickly learn the workflow system, while acquiring new product knowledge within the industry as it develops
- Work with other team members to create an upbeat, positively motivated workspace as we solve customers’ issues
