Training Technologies and Support, Inc. has an exciting opportunity for a janitorial supervisor to support the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama. This is for the overnight shift.
The Janitorial Supervisor works directly for the TTS Birmingham Alabama Program Manager and provides supervision for 6-16 custodians working in the Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama. To accomplish this, the Housekeeping Supervisor must work closely with both company and government co-workers as well as the Program Manager. Work is typically performed during the overnight shift Monday through Friday. Weekend, holiday, and after-hours work may be required on occasion.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Directly responsible for the completion of custodial services and work orders scheduled during the overnight shift.
- Supervises a team of housekeepers ensuring adequate coverage and performance. Schedules daily and periodic cleaning for completion and conducts routine inspections to ensure tasks are performed satisfactorily.
- Coordinate with hospital staff to ensure cleaning tasks are completed without disrupting patient care.
- Implements and oversees appropriate sanitation procedures to ensure all requirements are efficiently addressed and that supervised personnel use proper cleaning agents and methods for surfaces, equipment, and environments as specified by medical center protocols, follow personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols, and adhere to OSHA standards and CDC infection prevention protocols to include the handling and disposal of biohazardous and medical waste.
- Demonstrated ability to operate cleaning machinery such as floor scrubbers and vacuums safely and effectively and to ensure all equipment is in proper working order.
- Provides training to staff on cleaning techniques and protocols expected in a medical environment. Must be able to provide solid training on all aspects of job including but not limited to burnishing, stripping, waxing, and grout cleaning for various types of non-carpeted flooring, vacuuming, spot cleaning, and steam cleaning of carpeted areas, and protocols for infection control, proper use of chemicals, cleaning methods, and hazardous waste handling.
- Assists in the day to day, as well as periodic weekly or monthly janitorial activities for office space, restrooms, and administrative areas based on specified performance and scheduling requirements.
- Maintain an organized janitorial supply area and ensure adequate stock of cleaning materials.
- Communicate any issues, hazards, or special cleaning requests to the supervisor promptly.
- Provides input to the Project Manager for reports and summaries as required
- Maintains appropriate records and statistics for administrative and regulatory purposes.
- Meets periodically with the Program Manager and the government Housekeeping Lead to review the status of deliverables and to institute corrective measures for any deficiencies found.
- Completes any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Able to pass a background check in order to gain access to federal government facilities.
- Prior experience providing janitorial services within a healthcare setting.
- Prior supervisory experience.
- Most possess an understanding of infection control standards and proper cleaning methods.
- Must have the ability to follow detailed instructions and cleaning protocols.
- Must possess the basic mechanical skills needed for handling and maintaining cleaning equipment.
- Must demonstrate strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work.
- Must be dependable, punctual, and capable of working independently or as part of a team.
- Must demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills required to maintain professionalism in a medical facility.
- Ability to implement and follow all federal and building health and safety policies.
- Ability to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to meet physical requirements of standing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, reaching, climbing, and balancing for extended periods, consistent with janitorial duties.
- Able to work in a healthcare environment that requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, masks, and safety goggles.
- Demonstrate basic computer skills required to complete timecard and perform other administrative tasks through our payroll system.
- Demonstrate flexibility required to react to changes and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner.
