Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Maintenance Manager to oversee all maintenance activities at our chemical distribution facility, which specializes in packaging and bottling operations. The Maintenance Manager will be responsible for ensuring equipment reliability, managing maintenance schedules, adhering to safety and environmental compliance standards, and optimizing operational efficiency.
This position requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient workplace.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance and Reliability
- Plan, schedule, and execute preventive maintenance programs for all machinery, including pumps, valves, conveyors, filling, bottling, and packaging equipment.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems to minimize downtime and maximize equipment performance.
- Ensure the proper functioning of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems within the facility.
- Collaborate with vendors and contractors for equipment repairs and upgrades.
Team Leadership
- Supervise and provide guidance to the maintenance team, ensuring proper training, task delegation, and performance evaluations.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement within the maintenance department.
Safety and Compliance
- Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations and chemical industry safety standards.
- Ensure equipment and maintenance activities comply with all relevant environmental regulations, particularly concerning hazardous chemicals.
- Conduct routine safety inspections of equipment and facilities to identify potential risks and implement corrective actions.
Operational Efficiency
- Develop and manage the maintenance budget, ensuring cost-effective procurement of parts, tools, and services.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for maintenance activities and implement strategies to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Partner with production and operations teams to support seamless packaging and bottling processes.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, including work orders, inspections, and repairs.
- Provide regular reports to management on equipment performance, downtime, and maintenance costs.
- Catalog and create a perpetual inventory of all maintenance supplies and tools.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5 years of experience in maintenance management, preferably in a chemical distribution, manufacturing, or packaging/bottling environment.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical systems, automation, and chemical handling equipment.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
- Familiarity with safety standards for chemical handling and distribution (e.g., HAZMAT, DOT, OSHA, NFPA).
- Proficient in maintenance management software and systems.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and leadership abilities.
Certifications (Preferred)
- Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP).
- Certification in hazardous materials handling or safety management.
Working Conditions
- Majority of work conducted in an industrial environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and chemicals.
- May require occasional lifting of heavy objects, working at heights, and in confined spaces.
- Flexible to work extended hours or on-call as needed to address maintenance emergencies.
