Special Service Operators provide safe, efficient, on-time, door-to-door delivery of passengers using public transportation on our RAMP/Paratransit service. The responsibility of the Special Services Operator is to drive a Special Service bus in a safe, courteous, and reliable manner throughout the TANK service area within a daily assigned schedule.
You will assist in boarding and alighting all passengers, including those in wheelchairs and with mobility aids, among other responsibilities.
A driver’s license is required. Pay begins at $19.05 per with a wage progression to $21.17 per hour.

Position Title: Full-Time Special Service Operator

Reports to: Manager of Special Service Operations
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Manager of Special Services, provides safe, efficient, on-time, door-to-door delivery of passengers using public transportation.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to learn detailed schedule information about TANK bus routes.
- Ability to work cooperatively and be a team player.
- Ability to keep clear and accurate records.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Drives a Special Service bus in a safe, courteous, and reliable manner throughout the TANK service area within a daily assigned schedule.
- Assists in the boarding/alighting of all passengers including those in wheelchairs and with mobility aids.
- Assures the proper securement of wheelchairs.
- Assists passengers to and from the coach to the door of their origin/destination.
- Notifies dispatch of pick up/drop off deviations, schedule deviations as well as accidents or passenger incidents.
- Notifies dispatch of passengers’ medical or behavioral problems and mechanical or electrical problems with the bus.
- Administers TANK’s fare policy and sees that fares are deposited into the farebox
- Operates on-board computer for farebox and communication with dispatch
- Dispenses information on TANK’s services to passengers as needed.
- Advises passengers of rules and regulations when necessary.
- Completes and submits written reports concerning passenger incidents,and preventable and non-preventable accidents.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to sit for extended periods.
- Must be able to stand and move about.
- Must be able to walk up and down the steps of the bus multiple times throughout the shift.
- Must be able to stoop and bend to secure wheelchairs.
- Must be able to push and pull to assist passengers in wheelchairs.
- Must be able to reach out and have the finger dexterity to use the MDT unit radio system.
- Must be able to read and comprehend written material.
