The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) is responsible for providing quality direct patient treatment in all levels of care. The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant implements treatment plans developed by a registered Occupational Therapist. The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant is clinically supervised by a registered Occupation Therapist according to the compliance of all professional standards. The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant will report to Director of Rehabilitation for all aspects of corporate operations.
DESCRIPTION
- Perform services as stated within the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant scope
- Responsible for the treatment of residents with noted disorders or deficits within Occupational Therapy Assistance scope of practice upon receiving Physician order and completion of evaluation
- Optimize the functionality and skills of patients
- Responsible for the objective screening of residents
- Complete all necessary medical documentation
- Collaborate with Occupational Therapy(OT) to develop programs appropriate to the needs of facility residents while fulfilling Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) / OT co-signature and supervision requirements
- Attend all required meetings including care planning, staff meetings and family meetings
- Assist the facility in meeting the standards necessary to obtain state and federal certification while following the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA) Resident Right Guidelines
- Follow facility infection control policies and procedures
- Required to perform a variety of duties relative to the job, some of which require a moderate to heavy category of physical demand
- Push/Pull up to 300lbs, stand, sit, sustained squatting, repetitive stooping, trunk twisting, sustained kneeling, sustained & repetitive forward reaching, stair climbing, walking, grasping, fine motor, lifting
- Complete all other tasks that are deemed appropriate for the role and assigned by the manager/supervisor
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Effective written and verbal communication skills in English
- Ability to maintain professionalism in all situations
- Ability to clinically collaborate and be receptive to feedback & direction from OTR
- Knowledge of Patient Driven Payment Model (PDPM)
- Knowledge of Medicaid case-mix
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum Associate degree or its equivalent
- Certified in Occupational Therapy Assistant Program
- State Licensure
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Prior Senior Living Community and/or geriatric experience
