What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Transportation (TRA) position at Transportation Center?
Summary:
To provide safe daily transportation for all students of Frederick County. To establish policies, procedures, and documentation needed to plan for and manage student transportation in compliance with federal and state requirements and local board of education policies.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in transportation or business management or related field
- Minimum of five years of experience in transportation management required, pupil transportation preferred. School administration experience may be considered with demonstrated proficiency in a leadership role.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, staff, and the general public
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Thorough knowledge of budget planning, personnel management, fleet maintenance operation, routing procedures, and applicable laws, regulations, and policies
- Current knowledge of local, state, and national laws and standards relating to the Department of Transportation and vehicle maintenance
- Demonstrated experience in developing and tracking budgets
Essential Duties:
Essential duties are interpreted as being descriptive and not restrictive in nature. Other duties may be assigned.
- Development and management of a county pupil transportation plan
- Coordination of all regular education, special education, and athletic programs bus routes with an on-going review for time, fuel, and mileage efficiencies
- Preparation and supervision of the annual transportation budget
- Preparation of all state-required reports relating to pupil transportation
- Supervision of the interviewing, hiring, training, and evaluation of all transportation department employees
- Overseeing the maintenance and repair of school buses/division vehicles for safety and federal and state mandates
- Coordinating the purchase of new school buses including preparation of specifications, bidding process, and vendor recommendation
- Monitoring and resolving concerns expressed by parents, principals, drivers and other county vehicles
- Coordinating field trips and other types of special arrangements transportation
- Checking road conditions prior to school starting, which could be the previous evening or early morning, and providing data for inclement weather decisions to the Superintendent or designee
- Overseeing the maintenance and repair of other school division vehicles and other county vehicles
- Coordinating with other county agencies on transportation matters in the best interest of the school division
- Providing data to assist in planning for short term and long range growth and improvement in the department
- Other duties as may be assigned through the immediate supervisor
Pay Rate:
The salary range is $99,500 - $167,864
