Position Description : Purpose
The Drafter creates precise technical drawings for the design and manufacturing of mechanical systems and prototypes, ensuring designs align with machining and fabrication processes. This role supports engineers and contributes to prototype development and design improvements.
Essential Functions
Prepare detailed drawings of test equipment to be manufactured from layouts, models, or sketches
Provide technical and mechanical design support to project teams
Coordinate project schedule changes and scope of work with project teams
Interpret and apply knowledge of various manufacturing processes to ensure designs are feasible for machining and fabrication.
Prepare 2-D and / or 3-D CAD drawings or computer modules of complex mechanical systems, structures, parts, or equipment
Create Computer-Aided Machine Drawings (CAMD) that align with machining capabilities and tolerances

Other Duties and Responsibilities (Non-Essential Functions)
Assist in the development of proposals and plans for research programs
Represent the customer and TRC to external contacts
Interpret technical standards as they apply to drawings
Interpret and understand technical drawings
Review and compare technical drawings against physical parts for accuracy
Organize, review, and revise large, detailed technical drawing packages
Manage and maintain large technical drawing databases
Support TRC Inc.s Quality and EH&S (Environmental, Health, and Safety) efforts
Apply knowledge of machining tolerances and processes to ensure practical and manufacturable designs
Provide fabrication support for prototype designs
Understand the design, structure, and functionality of products to optimize drafting output for real-world application
Qualifications
Associates degree in a mechanical, drafting, or design technology discipline is preferred
Recognized certification(s) and / or minimum three years of related experience or five years demonstrated expertise in applied drafting and design
General knowledge of mechanical components or equipment
General knowledge of electronics components as they relate to technical drawings
Working knowledge of fabrication and machining practices as they related to design
Proficiency in CAD tools, including 3D modeling and integrating CAD output with other software programs
Skilled in technical measuring techniques and applying them to design accuracy
Strong communication and organization skills
