Position Description: The Vehicle Chassis Dyno Test Laboratory is seeking an Engineering Technician to join the team to support vehicle chassis-based emissions and electric vehicle certification and development testing. This Engineering Technician would be responsible for setting up and conducting tests on the Chassis Dyno as well as customer communications and test data submission.
Essential Functions*
- Receive and inspect test vehicles including: light duty vehicles, motorcycles, ATVs & UTVs
- Generate and distribute test outlines and test plans as needed to accomplish test goals.
- Verify equipment test setups meet customer and applicable standards.
- Collect and process data from chassis dynamometer and exhaust emissions bench test systems.
- Compile test reports for internal review and customer submission.
- Read and understand applicable industry standards pertaining to testing support within the laboratory. Example: US EPA regulations like: 40CFR1051 applicable to ATV & UTV testing
- Manage project budgets and issue invoices for testing performed.
- Generate proposals for standard testing performed within the laboratory.
- Ensure clear, accurate communication of the status and results of the above activities; ensure that results meet or exceed customer quality expectations.
- Effectively handle multiple priorities, organize workload, and meet deadlines.
- Write requisitions for supplies and materials needed for the vehicle preparation area.
- Read and understand work instructions.
- Completion of projects in a timely, error-free and competitive manner.
- Work in a team or individually to reach project goals.
- Critically evaluate and correct deficiencies in operations, plans, and reports.
- Make technical decisions with minimal assistance.
- Support TRC Inc.s Quality and EH&S (Environmental, Health, and Safety) efforts
Qualifications
- High school diploma is required
- Associates degree in a technology discipline is preferred
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and communication skills
- Technical knowledge to solve tough substantive, work-related problems
- Excellent computer skills including word processing software
- Practical knowledge and experience of mechanical and/or electronics applications
- Practical knowledge of science or engineering
- Proficient in the use of test equipment, tools and machinery, and/or welding equipment and electronics
- Valid drivers license
Working Conditions
- Predominantly Indoor but also requires outdoor testing support
- Standard laboratory, climate-controlled environment & outdoor fair weather environment
- May be exposed to hazardous chemicals such as gas, oil, and paint
- May be required to wear respiratory, hearing, head and hand protection equipment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to move objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- Capable of positioning ones self into bending, stretching, climbing, or awkward positions
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for an extended period of time
- Must be able to operate wide range of vehicles including but not limited to: passenger cars, light duty trucks, motorcycles, ATVs & UTVs. Heavy Duty Truck operation is a plus but not required.
