Securing Travel, Protecting People - At the Transportation Security Administration, you will serve in a high-stakes environment to safeguard the American way of life. In cities across the country, you would secure airports, seaports, railroads, highways, and/or public transit systems, thus protecting America's transportation infrastructure and ensuring freedom of movement for people and commerce.

Qualifications:

To qualify for the SV-F Pay Band (equivalent to GS-9), you must have one year of specialized experience at the SV-E or GS-7/8 in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience is defined as:
  • Screener duties under only general supervision, only referring issues that may represent changes in policy, approach, or unusual situations to the supervisor for review and decision;
  • Providing immediate response to breaches of security and emergency situations;Taking appropriate steps to secure unauthorized weapons and/or potentially hazardous materials and devices in order to prevent entry to secure areas;
  • Assisting superiors and law enforcement officers with investigations of incidents (e.g., providing accurate information regarding incident, preparing clear and concise incident reports); and
  • Making suggestions to improve security screening processes and procedures.
Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience. No additional credit is given for overtime.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.

Responsibilities:

This Coordination Center Officer position is located Albuquerque International Sunport Airport (ABQ), Transportation Security Administration, Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Supporting security from functions and operations such as Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response (VIPR), Playbook, Screening Passengers by Observation Techniques (SPOT) operations, Transportation Security Specialist - Explosives (TSS-E) operations, Travel Document Check (TDC) operations, and other activities and applicable operations.
  • Coordinating and tracking the readiness status and maintaining working relationships with other related entities throughout TSA, including Headquarters and other airport operations to ensure effective coordination and sharing of necessary information, as determined by the Federal Security Director (FSD).
  • Reviews emergency call information (e.g., bomb threat, breach, applicable Transportation Security Operations Center (TSOC) incidents, etc.) and transferring information in accordance with local procedures.
  • Reviews incident reports for accuracy and completeness to ensure proper reporting procedures have been followed. Inputting incident report data using various systems such as PARIS. Assisting senior employees or supervisor in preparing reports and briefings on issues related to significant security incidents such as bomb threats, on-board disturbances, security access control events, airport screening operations, airport statistical data, and inspection and law enforcement activities.
  • Determines the significance of events, follows incidents reporting guidelines (per TSOC guidance) and ensuring the delivery of information to appropriate recipient(s). Ensuring that superiors are aware of ongoing activities and recognizing the need to call to their attention important new information which may require further examination or action.
Emergency Essential Position: This position is designated as an Emergency Essential (EE) position. This designation requires the employee to remain in a duty status if an emergency arises.
