Primary Purpose:
Report directly to the Director of Transportation in the oversight and management of the Transportation Department. Responsible for the efficient operation of bus routes, supervising drivers, addressing student behavior and parent concerns, and resolving complex transportation-related issues. Demonstrate exceptional leadership, problem-solving skills, and a deep commitment to student safety and customer service.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or High School Diploma/GED with a minimum of four years of public education experience, particularly in student transportation.
Clear and valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Strong knowledge of laws and regulations governing school bus operations, including FMCSA, ELDT, DOT, TX DPS, and SBD certifications
- Proven ability to manage personnel effectively, ensuring safety, compliance, and operational efficiency
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills
- Ability to manage transportation budgets and personnel while ensuring adherence to district policies and safety standards
- Proficient in utilizing data and technology for transportation planning, monitoring, and evaluation
- In-depth understanding of transportation laws, regulations, and district policies
- Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership capabilities
- Exceptional communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

Major Responsibilities
Transportation Operations
1. Oversee and monitor the performance of bus routes, ensuring safe, on-time service through analysis of GPS data and customer feedback.
2. Manage transportation personnel to ensure efficient route execution, compliance with safety protocols, effective policy-driven disciplinary actions, and high standards of customer service.
3. Foster a positive work environment that promotes employee success, engagement, and professional development.
4. Oversee inspections of all district-owned transportation vehicles.
5. Ensure thorough inspections of all district-owned transportation vehicles to maintain safety and reliability.
Policy Compliance and Reporting
6. Ensure accurate maintenance of employee time records and timely submission of payroll data.
7. Address student discipline issues on buses, including suspension of riding privileges for violations of policies.
8. Investigate and resolve concerns related to transportation, providing prompt action and follow-up.
9. Implement ongoing training and support for drivers to promote effective student management and safety practices.
Student Management
10. Communicate with school administration regarding student discipline and suspension of riding privileges for any student who violates rules and regulations.
11. Investigate reported concerns in a timely manner and take appropriate action to resolve issues.
12. Facilitates ongoing program to ensure drivers are using proper student management skills.
Personnel Management
13. Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate staff, providing recommendations for personnel actions such as assignments, retention, discipline, and termination.
14. Maintain confidentiality and integrity when dealing with sensitive personnel matters.
15. Exercise sound judgment, problem-solving abilities, an initiative in addressing challenges and making decisions.
16. Demonstrates thoroughness, reliability and accuracy in completing work tasks.
17. Engage with staff, students, parents, and visitors with professionalism, courtesy, and helpfulness.
18. Ensure drivers conduct pre-and post-trip inspections and document any faults or issues.
19. Coordinate transportation for extracurricular trips, special programs, and other school-related events.
20. Assign drivers and attendants to regular routes and special events, ensuring coverage and support as needed.
21. Provide timely and effective communication with stakeholders, including school administrators and parents.
22. Respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies, notifying the Director and relevant parties as necessary.
Safety Management
23. Enforce safety standards in compliance with state, federal, and district regulations and implement preventive safety programs.
24. Assess road conditions and advise administration on inclement weather or safety concerns that may require delays or school closures.
25. Investigate school bus accidents and student safety violations, ensuring the proper action is taken.
26. Maintain safety standards for transportation equipment in accordance with regulatory requirements.
27. Organize and lead training programs focused on safety and best practices for drivers and transportation staff.
