Gary Railway Company’s Manager Safety and Administration oversees the implementation and maintenance of workplace safety policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with FRA regulations, conducting safety training, investigating incidents, and managing administrative tasks related to rail operations and safety records and reporting, all while collaborating with various departments to promote a culture of safety within the organization. This position also has administrative duties for hourly payroll approval and arbitrary claim handling in a union environment.
Responsibilies:

Responsibilies:
- Conducting thorough risk assessments to identify potential hazards in the workplace.
- Developing and implementing preventative measures to address identified risks.
- Designing and delivering comprehensive safety training programs for all employees, including new hires, supervisors, and specific job-related safety training.
- Promoting a safety culture through awareness campaigns and employee engagement initiatives.
- Assist with investigating all workplace accidents and incidents to determine root causes.
- Developing corrective action plans to prevent future incidents.
- Maintaining detailed safety incident reports and tracking trends.
- Conducting regular cross departmental safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with safety policies and FRA regulations.
- Identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
- Other duties as required by the General Manager.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
- Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Logistics, Business Management, or Business Administration preferred.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Strong understanding of railroad operations and FRA regulations.
- Proven experience in rail safety or railroad management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively train and engage employees.
- Analytical skills to investigate incidents and identify root causes.
- Leadership abilities to promote a safety culture within the organization.
- Proficiency in safety software and reporting tools.
- Experience dealing with union rail labor agreements and arbitration, hearing officer duties to effectively conduct fair and impartial hearings while adhering to established procedures to include excellent written and verbal communication skills to clearly articulate decisions and findings
