Responsibilities

What you'll be challenged to do:

The Project Surveyor will be responsible for supporting the overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, quality assurance/quality control, and completion of professional survey services.

Responsible for completion of project tasks to with minimal direction. Responsible for the preparation and completion of accurate title boundaries, plats, topographic design surveys, control surveys, and various construction related surveys. May coordinate and, in some cases, manage the preparation of construction layout within area of specialization.

Additionally, the role includes training and mentoring of junior staff, client satisfaction, and business development under the direction of the Survey and Market Leaders. The successful applicant should be a proactive communicator and someone who can successfully balance employee needs with business objectives to create integrated solutions.

Essential Functions:

  • Understanding of all field and office survey operations.
  • Organize technical production and direct field work.
  • Uphold quality control and assurance.
  • Maintain communication with clients, leadership and staff.
  • Meet schedules and budgets while providing responsive service to the client.
  • Perform boundary research of maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records.
  • Prepare boundary calculations, metes and bounds descriptions and parcel plats.
  • Research previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain data needed for various surveys including control, topographic, bathymetric, engineering, alignment and right-of-way.
  • Keep accurate, legible and neat notes, records, and sketches of work performed.
  • Coordinate projects with clients, staff, engineering and architectural personnel, and other stakeholders.
  • Determine methods and procedures for establishing or reestablishing survey control.
  • Ability to apply techniques and methods to obtain desired accuracy and information.
  • Maintain project database by using computer programs; entering and backing up data.
  • Develop and present proposals to clients.
  • Show consistent exercise of initiative and independent judgment in work assignments.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge.
  • Participate in professional societies and practice communities.
  • Ability to work with and mentor people.
  • May supervise the activities of a single or multiple survey field crews and provide training to staff.


Qualifications

What you bring to our firm:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or a minimum of 10 years of land surveying experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience dependent on the State Registration Experience requirements.
  • Valid registration as a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) in the State of North Carolina (preferred.
  • Excellent math, oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong detail-oriented work style.
  • Experience with preparation of boundary research and calculations, topographic surveys, project control, metes and bounds descriptions and general survey support for engineering design projects.
  • Experience prioritizing and managing multiple projects with schedule and budget constraints.
  • Experience managing office and field survey personnel with the ability to identify work priorities and functions.
  • Maintain communication and relationships with existing and potential clients.
  • Professional attitude and able to communicate with all levels of personnel.
  • Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.

What we’d prefer for you to bring to our firm:

  • Local candidates
  • NCDOT Precertifications.
  • Experience with survey post-processing software (Leica Infinity or StarNET, Carlson Survey, Civil3D)
  • Experience with remote sensing data acquisition, registration, and processing (Leica Cyclone, Trimble)
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and constantly changing priorities.
  • Flexible to working overtime.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Experience with the following projects:
  • NCDOT right-of-way mapping
    • Boundary/Topo
    • Transportation/Bridges
    • Preparation of Right-of-Way Aqcuisitions and Easements
    • ALTA/ACSM (NSPS) Land Title Surveys
    • Project Control for LiDAR and Aerial Mapping
    • Construction Layout
Physical/Mental Demands:

  • Talk, hear, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach
  • Ability to lift/push/pull up to 25 pounds daily


Working Conditions:

  • Work in outdoor environment 95% of the time
  • Moderate noise level
  • Travel via automobile on daily basis
