What are the responsibilities and job description for the Auto Shop Technician position at Traveling Eagle?
Key Responsibilities:
- Vehicle Diagnostics:
- Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify issues with vehicles.
- Troubleshoot engine performance problems, electrical malfunctions, and other vehicle system issues.
- Repair and Maintenance:
- Perform routine maintenance such as but not limited to: oil changes, brake checks, tire rotations, fluid changes, and more
- Complete major repairs such as but not limited to: engine overhauls, transmission repairs, radiator service, suspension work, and more.
- Replace and repair worn-out parts like belts, hoses, spark plugs, air filters, lights, etc.
- Cross reference parts to confirm we have the correct parts to make the repair.
- Customer Interaction:
- Explain vehicle issues and recommended services to customers in clear and understandable terms.
- Provide accurate cost estimates for repairs and maintenance services.
- Advise customers on the best course of action for maintaining or repairing their vehicles.
- Provide excellent customer service when completing a transaction with a customer.
- Parts Ordering and Inventory Management:
- Order parts as needed for repairs and maintenance.
- Maintain an organized inventory of auto parts and tools.
- Accurately complete the monthly inventory form.
- Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate records of services performed, parts used, and hours worked.
- Ensure that all work is documented on the Multi Point Inspection form. This needs to be completed for every job.
- Ensure completed inspection forms are filed in an organized manner.
- Adherence to Safety Standards:
- Follow all safety procedures while working with hazardous materials and operating machinery.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with OSHA standards.
- Continual Learning and Other:
- Stay updated with the latest automotive technologies and repair techniques.
- Attend training sessions and workshops as necessary to improve skills.
- Responsible to keep the restroom and customer waiting area in clean and working condition.
Required Skills:
- Strong knowledge of vehicle repair and maintenance.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and software.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues.
- Ability to use POS to check customers out after their repair.
- Excellent problem-solving and time-management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and quality of work.
- Customer service skills and ability to explain technical issues to non-experts.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an automotive technology program or vocational training.
- ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience working as an auto technician or mechanic, preferably in an independent shop.
Working Conditions:
- Physically demanding, involving bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
- May involve exposure to various chemicals, automotive fluids, and heavy equipment.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $15.00 per hour
Expected hours: 8 – 20 per week
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
