Summary

Assist Teaching Team in planning and implementing a high-quality Therapeutic and childcare classroom program adhering to Oregon Association of Relief Nursery guidelines and Quality Assurance Standards, Oregon Office of Childcare regulations, and best practices in Early Childhood Education, ages six weeks to 4 years. A Classroom Assistant will value and help achieve the mission and philosophy of Treasure Valley Children’s Relief Nursery. They will meet the Oregon Office of Childcare requirements for a Classroom Assistant. The Classroom Assistant will follow the lead of the Lead Teacher in the classroom. They will create/maintain a well-organized and welcoming classroom.

Key Responsibilities

Program and Class Duties:

  • Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum for the Therapeutic Classroom for children using Conscious Discipline, the Therapeutic Classroom Guidelines, and the Creative Curriculum as a foundation.
  • Implement Conscious Discipline and evidence-based social and emotional practices.
  • Engage in thoughtful interaction with children to create a safe and therapeutic environment.
  • Maintain the classroom organization, assisting the Lead Teacher with classroom environment management.
  • Comply with classroom health and safety requirements (training will be provided).
  • Maintain the stock (restocking as needed) of items in the classroom.

Shared duties:

  • Coordinate with supervisor and staff to provide needed services to families.
  • Attend community meetings and appointments to coordinate holistic support for class families.
  • Participate with other staff in the riding of the bus.
  • Adhere to any policies and safety procedures for the bus or program.
  • Participate in and facilitate (when assigned) Family Connection events and parent education provided by TVCRN.
  • Coordinate with Relief Nursery support staff, including Program Director, Lead Teacher, and other Classroom Assistants, to maintain the program and center. Those requirements might be cleaning the classroom, gym, playground, bus, kitchen, and any other areas that might be necessary to maintain the center. All teacher assistants will help in the kitchen, ride on the bus, and help with events as needed.

Professional Development and Community Collaboration:

  • Participate in training as the supervisor assigns to meet professional development requirements and personal and professional development goals. Travel to training may be required. Reimbursement or advance payment for travel-related expenses will be included.
  • Participate in staff meetings with the entire agency staff to collaborate and develop a unified workplace.
  • Discuss concerns regarding families, children, or staff with a supervisor.
  • Engage in Reflective Supervision.
  • Play an active role in developing personal and Professional Development Plans.
  • Participate in agency fundraising and community outreach events as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Early Childhood Education or related field experience preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish / English strongly preferred.
  • Enrollment in the Oregon Central Background Registry must be obtained before the start date.
  • Enroll in the Oregon Registry Online (ORO) to receive a Step Certificate (may be completed upon hire)
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and Food Handler’s cards (can be obtained upon hire)
  • Participate in training related to Mandatory Reporting of child abuse or neglect.
  • Experience with children preferred.
  • Ability to complete provided training required by TVCRN, OARN, and Oregon Office of Childcare
  • Valid Driver’s License and Insurance
  • Criminal background check required.

  • Ability to communicate clearly in oral and written form, organize program information, and offer staff feedback.
  • Ability to adapt and work effectively under pressure with a positive attitude and personal balance.
  • Ability to relate tactfully, confidently, and non-judgmentally with parents, children, and staff of diverse backgrounds.
  • Skill in problem-solving and developing creative approaches; working independently and as a team member utilizing facilitation and mediation practices.
  • Knowledge of community resources, child development, parent-child relationships, parents’ models, and intervention techniques with families.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.

The position will require adjustment and adherence to changing guidelines and progress toward quality improvement and best practices.
