What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Student Ministry position at Tremont United Methodist Church?
Overview
The primary function of the Director of Student Ministry(DSM) is to mold and implement the vision of the overall children's and student spiritual formation ministries of the church to empower, support and nurture the leaders of these ministries.
Responsibilities
The DSM works in coordination with and under the direction of the senior pastor. The role of the DSM includes the following:
- Responsibility for establishing policies and guidelines for the children's and student ministry programs, including adhering to and insuring compliance with "Safe Sanctuaries".
- Oversee, provide and assign curriculum, supporting materials , provision of equipment, and space
- Assist in recruiting volunteer staff for all the programs associated with Children's and Student Ministry with the support of Senior Pastor and Nominations and Lay Development team.
- Provide support for the Children's and Student Ministry teams in the form of training and continuing education opportunities.
- Oversee the supervision and evaluation of the Children's and Student Ministry program including teacher and program effectiveness.
- Recommend and support a budget which will provide for effectively implementing and growing the program.
- Take a hands-on approach alongside unpaid youth teams, overseeing, maintaining communication, and empowering these teams to perpetuate Student ministries. The purpose is to become involved with and familiar to the youth by regular presence and occasional leadership and building relationships.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Must agree with and able to support the mission and vision of the TUMC theology and conduct her or himself in a manner compatible with biblical Christian teaching.
- College degree or experience in this ministry area preferred: emphasis in education is desired as is experience but we will consider any person with a passion for children's or student ministry,
- Possess the ability to identify and/or develop curriculum and leadership training
- Able to initiate and delegate the work necessary to achieve goals, and is comfortable in a staff setting where responsibilities are delegated and shared.
- Operates as a team player who can focus on building community and is willing and able to empower others in their ministry with children, youth and adults.
- The position requires 20 hours per week, with additional flexible office hours as needed to support the aforementioned ministries
Working Conditions
- Paid Vacation will be 2 weeks paid to start, plus flexibility for unpaid time off.
- The DSM is expected to be present on Sunday mornings.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: Up to $30,000.00 per year
