What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lower School Academic Coordinator position at Trevor Day School?
The Lower School Academic Coordinator works with the entire Lower School community, collaborating with faculty, students, parents, and school leaders. Partnering directly with the Lower School Director, they oversee Trevor’s academic curriculum, including all aspects of differentiation and support for students and faculty. Their primary responsibilities include the following:
Managing Academic Curriculum:

Facilitate the development, implementation, and documentation of curriculum for Threes through 5th Grade, with additional focus on vertical alignment with Trevor’s Middle and Upper Divisions

Synthesize curricular goals and programming alongside assessment systems and reporting practices

Collect, analyze, and share data on student performance to optimize programs

Foster a collaborative environment among teachers to share best practices and resources

Promote innovative teaching methods and approaches to engage students and enhance learning
Managing Learning Differentiation and Support:

Oversee differentiated support and enrichment programming for students with a variety of different learning styles

Monitor student academic progress and provide guidance to teachers and staff related to academic support and enrichment

Lead Trevor’s Student Support Team, consisting of Literacy and Math Specialists

Coordinate with parents and outside evaluators concerning student recommendations, supports, and ongoing assessment, as well as outside support service providers

Assist in the development and implementation of individual student academic plans in conjunction with the classroom teachers and parents

Review psycho-educational evaluations and IEPs; translate results into recommendation plans for teachers, including coordination of any testing accommodations

Partner with School Psychologists and Health & Wellness Team to promote psychological and/or social-emotional health

Communicate curricular programming through parent and faculty workshops
Assisting Lower School Division Director:

Observe classroom instruction regularly, offering feedback and support to enhance teaching practices and student learning outcomes

Organize, lead, and facilitate meetings with faculty, staff, and families

Work collaboratively with Admissions, Division Directors, and others as required to ensure a strong retention program

Support student behavior issues, especially when related to a students’ daily social-emotional functioning

Develop and organize ongoing curricular initiatives and documentation

Assume some of the global responsibilities of a Faculty & Staff member
Qualifications:

Advanced degree in special education and/or curriculum development

Previous school experience necessary, preferably as a leader in specialized education

Proven ability to form strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues

Enthusiasm for collaborating with colleagues on innovative curriculum development

Strong proficiency with using technology in and out of the classroom

Genuine appreciation for children, knowledge of the challenges they face today, and commitment to their academic, social, and emotional well-being

The full-time salary range for this position is $75,000–$120,000. When extending an offer for employment, Trevor Day School bases the salary upon several factors that include (but are not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education, training, key skills, and peer salary equity.
