Position Description:
As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the design and layout of new projects. You will ensure that you and others are adhering to all department standards, while also being responsible for helping to define them. Co-ops and junior level engineers will look to you as a mentor, and you will be responsible for overseeing their layouts and equipment lists are thorough and accurate. You will be responsible for communicating project status to leadership, and generating mitigation plans for project / schedule challenges.
Duties/ Responsibilities:
- Oversee the layout and design of material handling projects
- Ensure the strict adherence to the budget and schedule for multiple projects
- Develop department standards, and ensure that they are being
- Train / on-board new engineers and co-ops
- Participate in design reviews for projects across the department and provide guidance on best application practices
- Travel to job sites with junior engineers and explain in depth details about how a system goes together, design criteria to consider, and best practices
- Oversee a customer program by supporting junior engineers on program projects
Required Skills/ Abilities:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Extensive knowledge of all internal software (AutoCAD, Netsuite, MS Office)
- Highly organized with a focus on schedule milestones and motivated to train fellow employees
- Education & Experience • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field
- • 12 years of related experience, preferably 7-9 years in the material handling industry
Work Environment:
This is primarily a desk-based role, requiring extended periods of sitting and computer use. While the role is mainly desk-based, mobility within the office, manufacturing facility and customer sites may be required for meetings and interactions with colleagues.
Physical Requirements Required to stand, walk and sit; talk and hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms for the use of tools to assemble heavy equipment. Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and lift up to 50 pounds. Travel less than 10%
