Job Responsibilities
The Tri-County Technical College Arts and Sciences Division is seeking a collaborative, energetic, and innovative Humanities Lecturer. Reporting to the Associate of Arts Department Head, the successful candidate will teach Philosophy, Religion, and various other designated humanities (HSS) courses using systematically planned and delivered instruction for the program; maintain records of student academic progress and attendance, evaluate level of achievement, and assign grades for the assigned class participants.
Lecturers must teach 18 credit hours or 6 lecture courses each academic term (fall and spring term). For lab/clinical-based programs, lecturers must teach 24 contact hours or 3 lab/clinical experiences that total at least 24 contact hours but not more than 28 contact hours each academic term. Teaching assignments may include both day and evening classes, online classes or hybrid classes on multiple campuses or high school and career center campuses. Lecturers will serve as intake advisors during peak periods and during the Summer intake peak period, approximately 6-8 weeks (late June – early August) at no more than 20 hours per week. Intake advising will include admissions, career, and academic counseling for prospective students as well as developmental advising for continuing students. Depending on summer enrollment, Lecturers may teach assigned courses and intake advisor hours may be reduced. Lecturers will be eligible for health insurance under the ACA and PEBA guidelines. Lecturers will be eligible for retirement benefits, as are all temporary employees. Lecturers are not eligible for paid holidays or leave; they are paid only for hours worked under SC State law.
The successful candidate will be required to start at the beginning of the Summer 2025 semester (May 2025). This is a part-time benefited vacancy, this is not a full-time vacancy. The successful candidate will be required to teach face-to-face instruction at one of our Tri-County Technical College campuses in the Upstate of South Carolina, online instruction is not available for this role.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
master’s degree in philosophy or religion or a master's degree with at least 18 graduate hours in the discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants with teaching experience in a community college; successful experience using a variety of active and collaborative learning strategies; and experience implementing innovative assessments to measure student learning.
