Position: Injection Mold Tool Prep
Summary:
This position is responsible for performing a variety of operations to clean and/or repair molds that are used in plastic injection molding machines. This includes the breakdown, cleaning, storage and reassembly of molds based on the information provided in the work orders. The position works directly with Engineering, Tool Room and Production to troubleshoot and resolve any mold issues. It also requires the ability to work independently, adhere to strict safety ISO and OSHA guidelines, maintain a clean work area and keep all molds/equipment in good, working condition.
Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
- Based on the Production schedule and Velocity Board, retrieve the molds for preparation for use in the Injection Molding Department.
- After each use, breakdown, inspect, clean and reassemble plastic injection molds safely according to the work orders and tool drawings. This may include grinding, polishing, filing and all other cleaning/hand tools using skill and care.
- Properly preserve and protect the molds for storage.
- Maintain the tool storage in an organized manner and advise the Manager to update the storage location on the computer system as necessary.
- Advise manager of the need to update and document any new processes or changes, as necessary.
- Properly tag and store all molds based on its status (red, green, yellow).
- Identify any mold damage maintenance issues and communicate finding to the Tool Room and/or Engineering for repair.
- Perform normal and preventative maintenance on each mold as required.
- Keep work station clean and organized.
- Actively accept opportunities at manager direction to develop new skills within the department and across departmental lines.
- Work in a manner that ensures your own safety and the safety of your co-workers, always use correct PPE, and never run a machine without proper guarding.

- Adhere to all AS9100 requirements as specified in work instructions and by your supervisor.
Education, Skills & Experience:
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Prior experience with injection molds preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude required; comfortable with hand tools and measuring equipment, blueprint reading skills preferred.
- Strong problem solving skills and troubleshooting capability.
- Forklift experience required. (Training provided.)
- Basic computer, general math knowledge and ability to calculate and solve certain geometric problems.
- Working knowledge of standard OSHA regulations.
- Physical ability to properly move molds and other equipment as needed; to stand, bend, sit and lift up to 40 pounds for 8 to 12 hours per day.
- Show up on time, work your scheduled hours, get along with co-workers and support others as needed.
- All other duties and special projects as assigned.
