Commercial Refrigeration Technician - Lubbock, Texas

Tri-Point Refrigeration
Lubbock, TX Full Time
POSTED ON 1/25/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 3/24/2025

We are a commercial refrigeration company based in Hutto, Texas. We have a great team, and we are looking to add to it. We can be pretty demanding, but if you give our team your best, you will receive our best in return. It can be pretty stressful, but we also have some fun. Here is what we're looking for:

We are in search of a new refrigeration technician, but not just any refrigeration technician. To be blunt: we really don’t want the best technician in town. That would be cool, but it’s considered an added bonus. We value integrity, values, morals, honesty, promptness, and a great attitude over a great technician. See, we can teach someone to be a great technician, but we can’t teach someone good character, and these things are far more important to us. Side note, if you have a problem signing a non-compete, read no further. It's a non-negotiable for us.

Our teammates must be teachable. We are very particular in our procedures and processes, and it has worked very well for us. We need someone that is teachable and ready to learn, that is willing to adapt to how we do things. At the same time, we are also flexible, if you have a great idea, PLEASE let us know, we are always trying to get better and improve. New ideas are almost always shared with the whole team and we work to make a decision that will work for everyone and the company. We are always growing and innovating.

Our teammates need to be detail oriented. Like the small details, we are a details matter company and this is really, really important. If you don't like details, stop reading now, you probably won't work out.

What We're All About:

A little more about us...We have 2 branches in Texas. Our headquarters is in Hutto, and our newest branch is in Lubbock. They are about 6 hours away from each other, so we do a lot of remote meetings. We don’t do ANY grocery store work in Hutto, but we do a little in Lubbock. We do all kinds of work, but we focus a lot on new construction and ice machines. We do TONS of PM work and we clean LOTS of ice machines. We don’t do any residential work, unless it’s for one of our customers’ homes, or one of our family’s homes. I think we have done 1 residential AC unit in 2 years. We work on a lot of reach-ins, under counters, walk-ins, ice machines, scientific equipment and we have even installed a few large rack systems.

The Kicker:

Here’s the kicker for most people, we don’t do much overtime. You are usually home by 5:30 or 6, so don’t count on overtime work. We value family time and being home on the weekends more than we value after hours work so we don’t pursue a lot of customers that require after-hours work. It does happen, and you will be on-call, but expect 1-2 calls on the weekend, maybe. You can expect 2-3 calls during the week during peak summer months.

Here is what we expect from our new teammate:

Experience - We are looking for someone with experience, if you don't have experience, don't apply. I know, I know, you've got great work ethic and your a fast learner. I'm sorry, this is not an entry level position, it's for experienced refrigeration technicians. Please don't waste your time if your not an experienced refrigeration technician.

Responsibilities – We are looking for a technician with 4 years or more experience, so you should already know what your main responsibilities will be. I’m not going to waste your time, or mine going over the same things you already know, I will cover the things you may not know. You are responsible for your own paperwork, while still on the job-site. Doing all your paperwork at the end of the day doesn’t work here, we need it done when you are done with the job.

Quotes – We aren’t on the jobsite, you are. We can’t guess what challenges we will be facing when we go change a compressor, install a new ice machine, or change out a case line-up. It’s your responsibility to write up the quote with the information that is necessary to get the job done. If you’re going to need a thermostat, put it on the quote. You need a teammate to help you put on an adapt-a-door, put it in the quote.

Pictures – We want pictures. We require pictures of nomenclature plates of everything we work on. We want pictures of the moldy ice machine, the broken drain line, the cracked evaporator fan motor bracket. We want a big smiling selfie on a roof in the rain. I’ve got a few of myself and a teammate in what seemed like a hurricane, it was fun! Most importantly, we want pictures of everything you do, before and after. We send those to our customers, and they love them, and it covers our butt when they tell us we did something wrong or didn’t do something, and we have photo evidence to back us up. Then we kick them to the curb. We don’t work with customers that don’t trust us and question our integrity.

Square Corners – We like our corners square. What does that mean? It means we don’t cut corners. We do the job right, and we take the time to do it right. Vacuums are always pulled below 500 microns, no matter what, we flow nitrogen when we weld, we make sure things are fixed right the first time. We don’t cut corners.

Timely - You have to show up to work at 8, and that’s am. I know, I know, it seems like this would be a given, but you'd be amazed at how consistently people show up late.

Communication – this is a big one, that’s why I bolded it and underlined it too. We need you to communicate with us, and our customers. Need off early to watch your kids awards show? Shouldn’t be a problem, but you need to give us some notice. We can work with you, and we want to work with you, your kids are important, we want you to have the opportunity to enjoy them, and be there for them, but please give us a couple days’ notice, and we will make it happen.

Incredible Customer Service - This is key, you have to be really friendly. And you have to care about people, our customers have the same problems we all do, sick kids, flat tires, mean bosses (just kidding, maybe?). Our job is to remove a point of stress for them, let’s give them great customer service.

Our teammates are responsible to take care of this company. Look out for the good of it, and this company will do the same for you. We want you to treat this company as if it were your family’s business, because it is. Once you have passed the 90 day mark, your in. Your family. We will treat you as such. But not like a crappy family, like a good family, like the Brady Bunch. (the Addams Family is what came to mind at first. Yes, its 2 ds.)

The aforementioned are the KEY responsibilities, I'm sure there are more...

A few other things...

  • Organization is pretty cool, especially when you are looking for stuff. If you are detail bent, then you probably like organization too.
  • Need you to be really detail oriented,
  • You need to think fast. Not like, "think fast!" when someone throws something at you, but think fast and solve problems quickly.
  • Google. Gonna have to search some stuff, and think outside the box. We have to find weird parts sometimes, and google is your friend.
  • If you take care of the small details, the big details take care of themselves
  • Incredible customer service. I put this in here 2x. It's important.
  • We have multiple offices, we will use Teams a lot.
  • You might be wondering what Teams is, I hope not, but if you are, refer to point #4
