Hours: 8 Hours per Day 7:30am-4:00pm with unpaid 30 minute lunch
This is a temporary position through July 2, 2025 (will work summer school). Non-bargaining unit members will earn the substitute rate of pay. Benefits and seniority earned on 91st working day.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The secretary in this position will be working primarily in the front office. The duties will involve performing tasks to support the efficient operation of the attendance office. This position also manages and maintains student records and other pertinent student information. Additionally this person will provide a friendly, caring, invitational and safe atmosphere in the secretarial office and reception area, care for students in the health room using basic first aid procedures, administer students’ medicine and perform other job-related duties as assigned.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- High school diplima or equivalent.
- A transcript of the highest level of education must be provided within thirty (30) days of employment.
- Spanish bilingual skills required – must pass the STAMP assessment.
- Must pass a basic skills test.
- Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within 30 days of employment and yearly thereafter.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Bilingual in Spanish and English.
- Minimum three years successful work experience in a secretarial/clerical or school office setting.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated skill at operating office technology, including Windows and Microsoft Office Word, Access, Excel and Outlook.
- Must possess CPR/First Aid certification, or be willing to become certified.
- Keyboarding accuracy and speed at 50 wpm.
- Demonstrated proficiency in verbal and written skills including an excellent working knowledge of correct grammar, spelling and English and Spanish usage.
- Demonstrated competencies with high quality customer service and people skills including the appropriate use of telephone etiquette in handling a multi-line system; able to maintain effective, positive work relationships with students, staff, parents, and the general public; the use of courteous communication with difficult people; and the ability to maintain confidentiality. I think this is ok
- Ability to work independently in an interrupted environment; exercising sound organizational judgment, setting priorities, and initiating tasks.
- Demonstrated ability to independently learn new procedures, processes, and use new equipment. This is critical for technology skills necessary to be successful, after thorough training, able to use appropriate applications of PowerSchool and Access.
- Evidence of an ability to provide a friendly, caring, invitational, and safe atmosphere in the school office.
- Evidence of an ability to work under pressure and with interruptions while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Evidence of excellent attendance, punctuality, and dependability; evidence of ability to be self-disciplined and a self-starter and ability to meet deadlines.

- Willingness to perform other related job duties as assigned.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The secretary in this position will:
- Be responsible for entering, managing and maintaining student records and other pertinent student information, maintaining the confidentiality of student records and information as appropriate.
- Input computer entries for discipline and attendance
- Contact parents of absent students
- Verify attendance notes and write attendance slips.
- Prepare and mail attendance letters.
- Manage and maintain ASB budget, records and requests.
- Manage ASB P-card including monthly reconciliations.
- Help facilitate scholarship disbursements through ASB.
- Develop a positive, collaborative working relationship with all school staff.
- Assist as appropriate the school administration in the operation of the school. This includes translating into Spanish when necessary.
- Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.
- Work Tri-Tech Summer Academy which typically operates from the day school gets out until right before teh 4th of July. Will be compensated for the extra day or two beyond regular contract.
- Attend some evening building operational events as needed.
- Work cooperatively with students, parents, teachers and administrators.
