Primary Role:
To help all students develop skills in the areas of personal-social growth, educational planning, and career/vocational development
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
- Current North Carolina counseling license, or be in process of obtaining
- Previous counseling experience with children is preferred
Skills:
- Ability to plan, coordinate, and evaluate the effectiveness of student programs
- Highly organized and attention to detail
- Ability to multi-task giving priority to the most important duties
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Friendly and able to interact professionally and positively with staff, students, parents, and community members
- Computer skills should include, at a minimum, keyboarding, email, databases, Word, and Excel
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follow all Board policies
- Maintain confidentiality of all student, parent, and staff information
- Establish the school counseling program and develop activities and resources to implement the program
- Coordinate counseling services for students
- Provide individual and group counseling services to meet the developmental, preventive, and remedial needs of students
- Consult and collaborate with parents, teachers, and other staff members to assist in meeting the needs of students
- Monitors student academic performance, behavior, and attendance and facilitates appropriate interventions
- Adhere to ethical standards of the counseling profession
- Provides intervention strategies to teachers
- May serve as a 504 Coordinator or a member of an IEP team
- Coordinate the efforts of support services and outside agencies
- Follow procedures for suspected cases of child abuse or neglect
- Other duties, as assigned, by supervisor/administrator.
