The Molecular Lab Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations within the molecular diagnostics laboratory, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, maintaining quality control measures, and fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration among laboratory staff.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate all aspects of laboratory operations within the molecular diagnostics department, including sample processing, nucleic acid extraction, PCR amplification, and result analysis.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory standards, including CLIA, CAP, and other accreditation requirements governing molecular diagnostics testing.
- Implement and maintain quality control measures to ensure the accuracy, precision, and reliability of molecular testing procedures. Monitor instrument performance, troubleshoot technical issues, and implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and training to laboratory staff, including molecular technologists and technicians. Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development to enhance technical skills and promote career advancement.
- Develop and implement efficient workflows and protocols to optimize laboratory efficiency and throughput while maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy.
- Review and interpret molecular test results, ensuring accuracy and completeness of reports. Collaborate with medical directors and other healthcare professionals to provide timely and accurate test results to support patient care.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation of laboratory procedures, protocols, and quality control data in accordance with regulatory requirements. Generate reports and maintain electronic records using laboratory information systems (LIS) and other software platforms.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including laboratory managers, medical directors, and administrative staff, to coordinate testing schedules, resolve operational issues, and support strategic initiatives.
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Molecular Biology, Genetics, or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
- Previous experience with ThermoFisher 12K in open array format required.
- Experience with Orchard LIS preferred.
- ASCP certification or equivalent certification in Molecular Biology preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a molecular diagnostics laboratory, with demonstrated proficiency in molecular testing methodologies, including PCR, RT-PCR, and nucleic acid extraction techniques.
- Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and quality assurance principles governing molecular diagnostics testing, including familiarity with CLIA and CAP accreditation standards.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively supervise and motivate laboratory staff in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in laboratory information systems (LIS) and other relevant software applications.
- Ability to sit, stand, and move around the laboratory
