Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement prescribed fire plans to achieve forest health and ecosystem goals.
- Conduct fuels assessments to identify areas with high fire hazard potential.
- Collaborate with tribal foresters, firefighters, and other stakeholders to ensure effective wildland fire management.
- Maintain and upgrade skills through ongoing training and certification programs.
Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in forestry, range management, agriculture, or a related field.
- At least two years of experience as a prescribed fire and fuels technician, forestry technician, or higher graded position.
- Red card qualifications as a Firing Boss (FIRB) trainee, with full qualification required within two years of hire.
- Single Resource Boss (CRWB, ENGB, HEQB, FELB) and Incident Commander Type 5 (ICT5) certifications.
- Valid State of Montana driver's license and BIA Northwest Regional Office Safe Driver Approval.
- Interagency Incident Qualifications System (IQCS) certifications.
- Department of Interior federal Interagency Wildland Firefighter Medical Qualification Standards for arduous duty wildland firefighting.
