Prescribed Fire & Fuels Specialist (Forester)
Job Summary
A dynamic and experienced Prescribed Fire & Fuels Specialist is sought to join the Tribal Forestry Division of Fire. This critical position requires a strong background in forestry, range management, or a related field, along with extensive experience in wildland firefighting and fuels management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and execute prescribed burns to maintain forest health and reduce fuel loads
- Conduct fuels assessments and develop management plans to mitigate fire risk
- Collaborate with other agencies and stakeholders to ensure effective wildfire response and management
- Maintain and operate specialized equipment, including fire engines and helicopters
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in forestry, range management, agriculture, or a related field
- At least two years of experience as a Prescribed Fire and Fuels Technician, Forestry Technician, or higher graded position
- Red card qualifications as a Firing Boss (FIRB) trainee and Single Resource Boss (CRWB, ENGB, HEQB, FELB)
- Incident Commander Type 5 (ICT5) certification
- Valid State of Montana driver's license and BIA Northwest Regional Office Safe Driver Approval
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior wildland firefighting experience on the fireline
- Experience with fuels management and prescribed burning
- Knowledge of Interagency Incident Qualifications System (IQCS) and Department of Interior federal Interagency Wildland Firefighter Medical Qualification Standards
