TriCare Counseling and Consulting is a private mental health counseling practice serving children and adults. Our office is seeking a Medical Records Specialist to help us process patient records.
JOB SUMMARY
In this role, your tasks will involve scanning documents, updating electronic health records, and preparing charts in advance of patient visits. During this process, you will ensure that our clinical documentation is accurate and complete. You will also respond to release of information (ROI) requests, logging all requests, authorizations, and releases in our system. As part of this role, you will ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including HIPAA guidelines.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Preparing patient charts and gathering information and documents from patients
- Ensuring that the medical records are organized, accurate and complete
- Creating digital copies of paperwork and storing the records electronically
- Filing the paperwork and reports of services quickly and accurately
- Safeguarding patient records and ensuring that everyone complies with the HIPAA standards
- Provide billing information to billing clerk
- Preparing invoices for requested records
- Obtain approval for record disclosures and process requests

REQUIREMENTS
- An Associate's degree in Business, Healthcare Administration or equivalent work experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and web applications. Be able to use Excel and Word at the intermediate level.
- Must demonstrate strong customer service orientation
- Must have good basic math skills
- Be able to handle sensitive or difficult issues with confidence and in a calm manner without being unduly influenced by intense emotions
- Position is three days per week with On-Call week nights and weekends
