Our Boston-based client seeks a Director of Finance (Controller) reporting to the Senior Vice President of Finance in the Corporate Accounting group. This position will oversee the accounting and finance activities of the Corporate office to ensure the completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of company accounting records, as well as the financial reporting for the Company’s equity investments. Must possess excellent analytical and communications skills, demonstrate leadership and initiative skills, and be able to work independently in order to see assignments through to completion.
About the Role
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Mentoring and coaching direct reports and support staff (currently 2 direct reports, 5 staff under those reports)
- Oversee all aspects of the general ledger and chart of accounts
- Oversee the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes and internal reporting, including implementing pre-close activities and shortening the close calendar.
- Direct, coordinate, and review deliverables of support staff that is focused on AR, AP, treasury management, expense coding, and journal entries for daily and close activities
- Oversee the financial reporting and audits for the Company’s equity investments, including audits, reviews, financial statements including footnote drafting, and assistance with tax return requests
- Collaborate inside and outside of the corporate finance team to build scalable processes to support growth while also ensuring accuracy, compliance, and integrity
- Assist various tax teams and preparers, both internal and external, to provide information needed to complete returns
- Work with finance leadership to develop efficient workflow processes, mitigate risk, and ensure financial controls effectuating a smooth month-end close cycle
- Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned, including ad hoc analysis and projects
Qualifications
The ideal Director of Finance candidate will bring the following skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- Minimum 7-10 years of accounting experience, ideally a public/private background
- Minimum 5 years experience in financial reporting
- Supervisory/management experience required
- CPA highly preferred
- Excellent understanding of accounting principles
- Self-motivated
- Very strong attention to detail
- Organization and prioritization
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Multi-entity and currency experience is strongly preferred
- Comfortable with the Microsoft Office suite of products
- A Willingness and commitment to commute to Boston 3 days a week (Tuesday-Thursday)
