TriMet is looking for our next Track and Rail Assistant Manager! We're looking for a candidate with strong experience in track and rail maintenance, construction, and/or engineering. Strong candidates will have experience testing and documenting, as well as managing a team.
Experience with substations, overhead electrical systems, and wayside communications is helpful but not essential.

As the Assistant Manager of Rail MOW you will work to supervise staff and contractors responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, installation, and modification of TriMet's light rail system maintenance-of-way plant and equipment. Functional areas of responsibility include traction substations, overhead electrification, wayside signals and communications, track and guideway structures.
This role requires being onsite five (5) days per week.

Essential Functions
- Supervise work assignments of Rail Maintenance of Way (MOW) employees. Allocate manpower and materials to assure rail service is maintained and minimize interruption.
- Implement, maintain and manage preventive maintenance programs. Monitor maintenance activities to ensure compliance with program goals and ensure production standards are attained. Keep manager informed of work progress or problems. Provide direction and instruction to employees on maintenance activities. Use written instructions, blueprints, schematics, drawings and specifications, and tools.
- Understand and comply with bargaining unit agreements including HOS requirements. Maintain good union, employee, and supervisor relations; resolve problems with employees. Administer progressive discipline through the effective application of Human Relations methods, practices and procedures.
- Prepare and implement work schedules, programs and procedures. Prepare routine and special reports of work accomplished, and time and materials expended.
- Coordinate MOW work programs with construction projects by TriMet or others occurring in or affecting the light rail right-of-way and train operations.
- Responsible for proactively implementing new techniques and improvements to identify problems and find solutions that improve work performance and environment. Coordinate productivity improvement processes by encouraging employee creativity and involvement to find short and long term efficiencies.
- Maintain a 24/7 readiness to respond to MOW light rail emergencies, such as vandalism, derailments, collisions, and MOW defects.
- Coordinate with project managers, project designers, and engineering and construction teams to support light rail improvement and expansion projects.
- Responsible for understanding, complying with, and enforcing agency rules and procedures to ensure a safe environment for employees and customers. Administered through regular inspections and research.
- Contract management including budgeting, cashflow analysis, approving submittals, monitoring, correcting, and approving contractor processes, work, and materials.
- Responsible for self and department's continuous improvement. This includes teamwork with many TriMet departments, collaboration with other transit agencies, and education and professional association advancement.
Position Requirements
Four (4) years of total credited experience.*
Three (3) years of experience in a maintenance-of-way discipline, such as, track, railway electrification, signals, communications, or rail facilities maintenance are required.
One (1) year of experience in a maintenance-of-way discipline at a lead level is required.
Possession of current/validClass "C" license issued by Oregon or Washington; ability to pass a driving record check meeting TriMet driving record standards.
Or any equivalent combination of experience and training.*
The amount of credit a candidate receives for prior years of experience is based on the relevancy of that experience to the required or preferred prerequisites of the job description. Experience is prorated based on hours worked. LRHR assigns and validates the "credited experience".

Minimum: $99,064.00
Maximum: $148,597.00
Salary offers will be determined by a candidate’s education, training and relevant experience. Any final offer of employment will fall within the range stated above. For transparency, we choose to list the full available grade range, however, TriMet’s salary administration process will ultimately determine the final salary offered.Selection Process
