School Bus Driver

Trinity Christian Academy is currently searching for a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and experienced bus driver to join our family. Duties include driving for the school in accordance with the laws and regulations of the state and the policies & procedures of the school. Transport students to and from school and other sites within designated route(s) and to ensure the safety of the student passengers while in a school vehicle.

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Drives a school transportation vehicle within a prescribed route(s) in accordance with time schedules, picking up and discharging students at designated stops.
• Transports students and teachers on field trips to various locations; planning necessary route(s) and stops as needed.
• Conduct safety and operational inspection of assigned vehicle.
• Reports needed mechanical repairs when necessary.
• Services buses with fuel, (gasoline or diesel fuel, DEF and oil; checks and when necessary, fills tires and batteries.
• Performs periodical safety drills as required by law, completing necessary reports upon request.
• Maintains cleanliness of vehicle to ensure safe operating condition.
• Attends various meetings regarding safety, first aid and training updates as required.
• Operates a two-way radio.
• Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Academy.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

• Ability to drive a school bus safely and efficiently,
• Ability to exercise good judgment and extreme caution while driving,
• Ability to read and write at a level necessary to successfully perform the required duties,
• Ability to maintain valid certification as school bus driver according to state regulations,
• Ability to meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform required duties,
• Knowledge of basic first aid practices, procedures, and techniques,
• Knowledge of safe driving practices,
• Flexibility/adaptability to change related to work,
• Demonstrates professionalism at all times.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Must be 21 years of age,
• Must have a clean driving record,
• Must pass a background check,
• Must pass a DOT drug screening and physical exam,
• Valid CDL Class A or B with passenger and school bus endorsements,
• High school diploma or equivalent required,
• Minimum of six months previous school bus driving experience or vocational training preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Travel within or outside of employment.
• Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.

While performing the responsibilities of this position, the work environment characteristics listed below are representative of the environment the employee will encounter:

• The individual is subject to both indoors/outdoors environmental conditions.
• This role must endure extended periods of sitting, which requires attention to detail and high levels of attention.
• This role is sometimes faced with interruptions and must interact with others on a regular basis.
