The teaching load is 5 courses a year and will include courses in the candidate’s area of research expertise. We will prioritize candidates with the interest and ability to teach introductory law courses for liberal arts undergraduates. The ability to teach one or more of the following courses also would be valued : (1) an introduction to US public policy; (2) a research methods course incorporating quantitative and qualitative analysis skills; and / or (3) a seminar in which students apply learning from policy and law internships to crafting policy memos and op-eds.
Public Policy & Law is an interdisciplinary program in which undergraduates learn and practice methods and modes of thinking that help them understand and become actively engaged in legal and public policy issues. Our multidisciplinary, multi-method program introduces students to a broad range of analytical skills from the social sciences and humanities, including statistical analysis, legal argumentation, and close reading of texts. Our major offers continuous opportunities to apply learning through internships and community-engaged projects, with the aim of cultivating civic participants with the capacity to make well-informed, ethical decisions.

A Ph.D. in Legal Studies, Public Policy, Sociology, Political Science or a related field should be in hand by August 2025. We will also consider candidates with a JD and experience that prepares them for undergraduate teaching.
