Job Title: Lab Section Leader
Department: Anatomic Pathology
Location: Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital
Hours: 40 hours
Shift: M-F 8-4:30pm
Under the general supervision of the assigned Section Manager, the Pathology Office Coordinator is responsible for the direction of Laboratory personnel engaged in Pathology Administrative duties such as: producing reports and correspondence, communication between HM and outside institutions, continuation of patient care through additional testing, and other Pathology Office duties. Provides a general level of technical and supervisory direction to (a) ensure the accuracy and efficiency of services provided by the assigned group, (b) resolve day-to-day problems within the area, (c) and ensure or conduct the necessary on-the-job and formal training of subordinates. Provides continuous support and assistance to all pathologists, laboratory administrators, and the Anatomic Pathology manager. Participates in the performance of laboratory procedures that fall within the range of the section Acts as the section manager in the absence of one.
- Performs all the duties of a Laboratory Section Leader as well as the duties of an Administrative Assistant II (R01374) as needed.
- Monitors all investigative work required to produce pathology materials for consultants, tumor board, legal matters, patient/physician requests, and responsible for maintenance of records for such requests.
- Handles all legal requests including maintaining logs and materials for future send-out.
- Responsible for correspondence including telephone calls, paging set up, email assistance, reading incoming correspondence (i.e., reports, consultations, etc), and screening items that can be routinely handled vs. need special attention.
- Coordinate pathologist and management events when applicable (tumor board, meetings, conferences, etc.) including scheduling, preparing agendas, providing necessary pathology materials, and any follow up activities.
- Maintain calendars and schedules of supported personnel. Assist pathologists and management with any College of American Pathology (CAP) paperwork, inspections, etc.
- Perform duties of Kronos timekeeper for the Anatomic Pathology department.
- Responsible for correspondence between pathology office staff, patients/clients, and pathologists/lab administrators, including telephone calls, paging set-up, reading incoming correspondence (reports, consultations, etc.) and screening items that can be handled routinely versus requiring special attention.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Basic knowledge of medical and pathology terminology required.
Experience: Two to three years progressively more responsible secretarial, clerical work experience in a healthcare work environment required. Two to three years pathology transcription experience preferred
Certification/Licensure: Not required
