What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cardiac Telemetry Technician- Per Diem- St Mary Medical Center position at Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic?
The main function of the cardiac telemetry technician is to: observe cardiac rhythms displayed on central station monitors, interpret patient's cardiac rhythms, document measurements on rhythm strips, respond to alarms and notify the registered nurse of heart rate and rhythm changes.
Required: Successful completion of dysrhythmia course
- Monitors central station monitors: verification of signal transmission and quality ECG tracing for all monitored patients.
- Initiates and discontinues telemetry monitoring on admission, transfer and discharge of patients. Suspension of monitoring as appropriate.
- Clarification and accurate entry of patient information-name, room #, LP #. Utilizes Bed board.
- Troubleshoots for faulty leads, battery function and signal transmission.
- Reports malfunction of equipment promptly to Biomed or Help desk. Reports variations affecting pt. monitoring to supervisor.
- Verifies Alarm limit settings. Customize individual patient alarm parameters based on RN direction. Writes changes on shift report sheets.
- Documents rhythm strips during shift and notes any changes: Measures PR interval, Measures QRS interval, Measures QT interval, Measures rate. Identifies the monitored rhythm correctly. Legible signature.
- Observe for rate & rhythm changes. Compares rhythm tracings with previous tracings. Report changes to RN.
- Responds to alarms in a timely manner. Communicates EMERGENCY and NON –EMERGENCY rhythm changes to RN.
- Documents rhythms changes and RN notifications. Writes on shift report sheets.
- Sends printed ECG tracings (routine and changes) to nursing units.
- Review stored patient data and evaluate trends. Report change in findings from baseline patient rhythm to RN.
