Job Summary
The Coordinator of Music Ministries facilitates the organization, planning, preparation, and presentation of music to support and uplift corporate worship.
Paid compensation: $20- 40 per hour; salary commensurate with work experience
Essential Functions (Coordinator of Music Ministries):
· Work in partnership with other music staff and the pastor to prepare for worship
· Work closely with the pastor to plan seasonal worship themes including sung liturgy
· Plan and select appropriate service music for Sundays and special liturgies
· Select hymns for Sunday and special worship services and communicate selections with other music staff and with the office staff for bulletin preparation
· Review request by non-church music groups for use of the church space and/or property and appropriateness of the content of the event.
· Coordinate and communicate with the church office staff to ensure all music rehearsals and special events planned by music ministry staff are on the church wide calendar and do not conflict with other events. All extra rehearsals and special events must be cleared through the Coordinator of Music ministries.
· Communicate with choir members
· Coordinate and work collaboratively with other music staff by
o Organizing the participation of ensembles and other musicians as needed
o Giving final approval to all worship service music selections
o Coordinating Sunday morning and weekly use of the sanctuary and chapel spaces for warm-ups, rehearsals, and musical presentations during the service
· Research and ensure musical licensing requirements are met including obtaining proper permissions giving due credit
· Distribute ensemble and musician participation schedules for church-wide planning and information sharing, as needed
· Cultivate and coordinate special music by volunteer musicians within the church
· Organize and plan for festival worship services, including the hiring of outside musicians, setting the payment scale within allotted budget constraints, and organizing special rehearsals
· Review and establish guidelines for the creation of new ensembles
· Purchase music for all ensembles as requested by other music staff
· Maintain a balanced music budget and plan expenses for each year’s new budget
Other Responsibilities:
· Participate in monthly Worship Committee
· Participate in church staff meetings
Minimum Qualifications:
· At least 3 years congregational music leadership experience
· Demonstrated knowledge of musical needs – vocal, instrumental, and/or conducting experience needed
· Knowledge of basic Lutheran theology highly desired
· Experience and participation in liturgical worship planning
· Familiarity with the hymnody of the Evangelical Lutheran Worship (ELW) hymnal desired
