Day Treatment Counselor
SALARY: 46,000-49,000
POSITION OVERVIEW:
A Day Treatment Counselor is part of a team of mental health professionals working with adults with severe and chronic mental illness along with a co-morbid developmental/ intellectual disabilities. The primary responsibilities include: facilitating group sessions and individual counseling, as well as community support and implementation. Group therapy topics may include: goal setting, DBT skills and other creative forms of expression. The center utilizes evidence-based practices, such as, DBT, ACT and FAP to create a therapeutic and holistic learning environment.
REPORTS TO: Day Program Director
NETWORK OR DEPARTMENT: Network 4/Behavioral Health
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintains a caseload of individual clients, meeting with them for regularly scheduled sessions
- Directs treatment for individuals on their caseload, working with the PSR director to utilize effective evidence based interventions
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of Contextual Behavior Therapy principles
- Conceptualizes a client's behaviors in a phenomenologically empathic manner, drawing upon a working knowledge of behavioral principals with the support and supervision of the PSR Director
- Conducts regularly scheduled group sessions and community outings
- Meets or exceeds benchmark of service billing set for their role by the Clinical Director and Network 4 Director
- Submits documentation for services in a timely fashion
- Demonstrates knowledge of correct procedures for Medicaid billing
- Maintains awareness of the milieu and intervenes as appropriate with evidence based interventions to assist clients in maintaining effective behaviors that promote healthy social and psychological adjustment
- Coordinates with team members when necessary to ensure clients maintain effective behaviors within the milieu
- Demonstrates an ability to interact with clients in an effective manner that promotes a therapeutic environment
- Demonstrates readiness to work in coordination with the team to ensure appropriate coverage of essential program functions. This may include volunteering for additional assignments above and beyond regularly scheduled responsibilities.
- Is an active participant in case staffings and regularly scheduled PSR staff meetings
- Communicates any identified problem areas or concerns to the PSR Director
- Works with PSR Director to implement evidenced-based, psychoeducational group curricula
- Works with the PSR Director to facilitate activities for persons served, including but not limited to camping trip, family and friends event, Halloween party, Holiday party, and Thanksgiving celebration
- Works collaboratively with the multidisciplinary treatment team, which includes residential staff and Supportive Employment, in helping persons supported achieve their goals
- Advises the PSR Director of any immediate or non-immediate medical problems regarding any program participants

- Knowledge of and willingness to utilize the third-wave contextual behavior therapy models
- Able to make independent decisions and problem solve
- Able to deal effectively with staff, program participants, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public

- Able to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, necessary for providing quality care
- Able to execute policies, procedures, and regulations and when necessary explain them to program participants, family members, members of the community, and staff from other agencies

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Be able to lift over 40 pounds from floor to waist unassisted
- Be able to push and pull 75 pounds
- Be able to complete deep knee squats
- Be able to push wheelchairs up to 200 pounds
- Remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods
- Operate motor vehicles
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard reach, stoop kneel to install computer equipment
- Physical activities that could be used include: driving, balancing, pulling, pushing, standing, climbing, grasping, stooping, crouching, crawling, kneeling, reaching, lifting, and repetitive motion.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor or Masters in the field of counseling psychology, social work, or other human service-related fields. Must be able to complete as pass a drug screen and physical examination which include: balancing, pulling, pushing, standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching, repetitive motion, pushing wheelchairs and lifting up to 40 pounds.
