What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle School/Upper School Part-Time Librarian position at Trinity Valley School?
Position Description:
Trinity Valley School seeks a Middle School/Upper School Part-Time Librarian to join the TVS faculty beginning in August of 2025.
Middle School/Upper School Library Program at Trinity Valley School:
The Middle/Upper School Library supports the mission and objectives of Trinity Valley School, works to strengthen the tenets of information literacy as outlined by the American Association for School Librarians, and strives to develop a love of reading in all patrons. To accomplish these tasks, the library provides services and programming designed to meet the needs and interests of the students and teachers of each division.
In order to build a collection that is academically useful and interesting, and to help further develop the intrinsic love of reading, the librarians at TVS actively seek input from students and faculty. Librarians model a culture that supports exploration of diverse topics and encourages reading for both information and enjoyment.
Additionally, the librarians at TVS seek to develop the intelligent use of information through all levels of the school community, empowering students to successfully use the libraries to navigate available resources, find needed information, engage in both creative thinking and critical thinking when utilizing information, and effectively and ethically share what they have learned with others.
The MS/US Library serves approximately 650 students and 70 teachers in two divisions, and contains an extensive and diverse collection of over 11,000 books and 40 databases.
While keeping in mind the academic objectives of the MS/US Library, the librarians embrace the many roles the library plays in the TVS community. Sometimes the library functions as a classroom, sometimes a gathering space for students and Upper School clubs, and at other times it serves as a quiet study area or a meeting space for adults. Before school, it is a place to start or finish school assignments or catch up on homework, and in the afternoon students work and study until the library's 4:00 p.m. closing.
Above all, TVS seeks candidates who love working with young people and place students at the heart of their work. TVS welcomes candidates who are willing to engage in campus life through coaching, volunteering with Trojan Outdoor Experience (TOE), leading students on Trojans Abroad Programs, and/or directing co-curricular clubs and programs.
Additionally, the successful candidate must be able to work collegially across the divisions.
