Summary:
The role focuses on developing superior packaging design capabilities and delivering a competitive edge through effective project management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design innovative packaging solutions for moderately complex projects, including product launches and existing products, throughout the entire product lifecycle-from concept to launch. This includes clinical trials, global and limited market releases, as well as key operational initiatives.
- Develop and implement protocols for package design, packaging process validation, and shelf life testing. Lead efforts to advance packaging technologies and strategies with increasing complexity, improving time-to-market and enhancing packaging engineering.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external suppliers to develop plans for moderately complex projects.
- Validate packaging equipment and manufacturing processes, determining appropriate sourcing, purchasing, installation planning, and specifications.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (Master's preferred).
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
Additional Skills:
- Experience in sterile barrier system packaging is highly desirable.
- Preferred experience in medical device packaging design and knowledge of regulatory requirements in a highly regulated industry.
- Strong understanding of sterilization methods and design requirements for medical device packaging.
- Proficiency in standardized package testing and regulations (e.g., ISO 11607, ASTM D4169).
- Experience with various packaging materials (e.g., Tyvek, HIPS, PETG, Polycarbonate, Polyolefins, co-ex films) and manufacturing processes (e.g., thermoforming, injection molding, extrusion).
- Ability to develop and execute protocols for packaging design, validation, and shelf life studies, as well as to source and qualify equipment.
- Strong technical writing skills and knowledge of documentation requirements.
- Ability to interact professionally across all organizational levels and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience working collaboratively in a team, including managing vendors and project stakeholders.
- Skilled at building productive internal and external relationships.
