The DevEx Engineer II role involves designing, building, and maintaining developer tools, platforms, and workflows, leading initiatives to improve developer productivity and efficiency, automating developer workflows, providing technical leadership and mentorship, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and driving the continuous improvement of the organization's developer ecosystem.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain developer tools, platforms, and workflows to enhance the overall developer experience within the organization.
- Lead initiatives to understand the needs, pain points, and challenges of software development teams, and drive the implementation of solutions to improve their productivity and efficiency.
- Develop and maintain internal developer portals, documentation, and self-service resources, ensuring they are comprehensive, up to-date, and user-friendly.
- Evaluate, implement, and integrate third-party developer tools and services into the organization's technology stack, ensuring seamless integration and compatibility.
- Automate developer workflows, including code testing, building, deployment, and monitoring processes, using scripting, automation tools, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
- Develop and maintain scripts, tools, and applications to enhance developer productivity, adhering to coding best practices, security protocols, and software development methodologies.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and training to developers on the usage of internal tools, platforms, and workflows, as well as best practices in developer experience and tooling.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, security, and infrastructure teams, to ensure seamless integration and compatibility of developer tools and platforms.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in developer experience and tooling, and drive the continuous improvement of the organization's developer ecosystem.
- Participate in the planning and implementation of developer experience strategies and roadmaps, aligning with the organization's overall goals and objectives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in software development, developer tooling, or a related role.
- Basic knowledge of managing the GitLab platform, including maintaining version control, supporting CI/CD pipelines, and containerization to facilitate smoother developer workflows and enhance team productivity
- Strong knowledge of software development life cycles, methodologies, and best practices.
- Proficiency in programming languages (preferably: Java, JDK, JavaScript, Springboot, note) and scripting languages (e.g., Bash, PowerShell).
- Extensive experience with version control systems (e.g., Git), CI/CD tools, containerization technologies (e.g., Docker), and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
- Deep understanding of developer experience principles, tools, and workflows.
- Experience in leading and mentoring teams of developers or engineers.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership abilities.
