Position: Quality Control Lab Technician
Job Classification: Full-Time, Year-Round (Third Shift 11:00 pm-7:30 am Sun.-Thu.)
Reports to: Lab Manager
Pay Rate: Hourly based on experience

Job Description:
The Quality Control Lab Technician performs microbiological and chemical analysis throughout the brewery. The ideal candidate will have experience in a quality department in a food manufacturing, brewing, or another manufacturing environment. The Quality Lab tests include but are not limited to: sensory, product and raw material chemical and physical analysis, yeast propagation, as well as various microbiological analyses.
This position will report directly to the Quality Assurance Manager, but will work closely with all production teams. Tröegs is a fast-paced environment, and timely completion of tasks is necessary to ensure we can keep our customers happy.
Requirements
Daily Duties, Functions, Responsibilities:
- Performs routine operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Interprets and reports process data and make decisions independently.
- Works well with little or no supervision.
- Works with a sense of urgency to complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Samples beer and raw materials from every step of production in a fast paced production environment.
- Places product or production on hold in real time based on analytical data.
Education and Experience:
- Proficiency with basic lab techniques such as pipetting, microscopy and aseptic sampling.
- Bachelor of Science highly recommended, with a degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, Quality Assurance, or Brewing Science preferred.
- Working knowledge of basic computer programs—Excel, Word, Minitab, Access
- Formal Beer taster training or BJCP certification recommended, but not required.
- Experience with lab equipment including UV-spectrophotometer, PCR, microscope, autoclave, and GC.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to climb and move ladders up to 20 feet.
- Able to lift and control large liquid containers in a lab setting.
- Able lift kegs and cases of beer.
- Able to duck underneath 3 ft. 6” conveyors.
Work Schedule:
40-hour work week with occasional overtime and weekends required. This is a third shift position.
Work Environment:
Tröegs Brewing Company is a climate –controlled brewing and packaging facility. The following is a representative list of what a co-worker might encounter during a typical work day:
· Hot water,
· Steam,
· Pressurized vessels, and
· Loud working areas.
Co-workers regularly handle hazardous materials and regularly come in contact with broken glass and wet floors while working in close proximity to moving mechanical parts.
