Job Summary:Under general direction by the Parks Crew Leader and general supervision by the Parks Superintendent performs a variety of routine semi-skilled and skilled duties in the maintenance and repair of parks, grounds, and recreation facilities. Ensures the continued health of the Town’s landscapes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Job duties and responsibilities as outlined herein, are intended to be a representative of the typical tasks performed. Incumbents may not perform all the listed duties and/or may be required to perform related duties as needed.
- Operate a variety of motorized equipment such as small and large commercial lawn mowers, tractor with various attachments, top dresser, sod cutter, turf sweeper, paint sprayer, weed eater, edger, blower and other related maintenance and landscaping equipment; operate a variety of hand tools
- Repair, maintain, and ensure the safety of all playground equipment, tables, benches, bleachers, pavilions, restrooms, and other public infrastructure
- Perform task related to maintenance and preparation of athletic fields, parklands, and other municipal grounds
- Perform preventive maintenance on equipment as assigned; inspect equipment before operating; complete daily operations report as assigned
- Collect litter from town parks and other town properties
- Clean restrooms in town facilities and parks
- Perform building maintenance on town facilities as assigned
- Assist with landscape installation, ball field renovation and preparation, and community special events preparations when needed
- Assist with irrigation repair
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or its equivalent
- Landscape/Maintenance experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
- Certified Playground Inspector Certificate is preferred
- At time of appointment, a Texas Motor Vehicle Class C Operator's License with a satisfactory driving record maintained throughout employment.
- Materials and equipment used in the maintenance, repair, and installation of park fields, grounds, landscapes, and facilities
- Methods and techniques of maintaining the safety of parks and playgrounds
- Basic plant identification
- Identifying plant diseases and their causes
- Proper handling of fertilizers and pesticides
- Practices and procedures used in turf management, irrigation, landscape construction, and pest control
- Maintaining tools and equipment used in park maintenance
- Relevant laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
- Occupational hazards and related safety precautions
- Principles and procedures of recordkeeping
- Modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment and applications
- English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation
- Assist in the performance of landscape construction and maintenance
- Operate tools and equipment safely
- Perform heavy manual labor for extended periods in all types of weather
- Troubleshoot maintenance problems and determine materials and supplies required for repair
- Make accurate mathematic calculations
- Understand, interpret, and apply all relevant laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
- Independently organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and follow up on assignments
- Demonstrate strong customer service skills and establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships
- Maintain records and files on work performed
- Use English effectively to communicate in person, over the telephone, and in writing
Incumbents typically work day-shift Monday through Friday and may be assigned overtime, evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call schedules. -Work both indoor and outdoor environments and may work in inclement weather. Work- with machinery, around moving vehicles/objects; on slippery or uneven surfaces; exposure to chemicals, mechanical and electrical hazards, and hazardous physical substance and fumes, vibrations, noise; some work in or with water. Continuous sitting, standing, and walking for long periods of time; moderate and heavy lifting and carrying, up to 50 lbs.; climbing, kneeling, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling; must be able to operate assigned vehicle. Limited computer use may be required. Adhere to all safety guidelines and wear safety equipment where required. Need manual dexterity and visual activity.
