Key Responsibilities :

Tropicana Brands Group is looking for a highly qualified HVAC Mechanic A – TR-5 to support the Utilities team to ensure the company’s goals and initiatives are met.

This role will be responsible for the maintenance of equipment and other duties as assigned by the leads or management. Tropicana is looking for a critical thinker with exceptional communication, influencing and relationship management skills who thrives in a fast-paced environment. Additional responsibilities will include :

  • The HVAC mechanic is responsible for the timely response to programming issues with HVAC equipment as well as setting up new controls programs as deemed by their lead and manager.
  • The HVAC Mechanic works with the Planner to coordinates the availability of materials, equipment and facilities for efficient and effective maintenance activities. This includes but is not limited to procurement of necessary materials (stock and non-stock), special tools and equipment required for efficient work execution.
  • The Mechanic ensures the proper documentation of work performed in accordance with the site’s Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

Safety – Meet or exceed all safety standards including LOTO, power isolation, and line breaking protocols.

  • Communication – Establish communication with department leadership and / or technicians to minimize downtime and maintain constant production levels.
  • Documents and maintains paperwork according to company and regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate equipment issues, needs, status of repair and any delay issues to department leadership.
  • Efficiency – Meet acceptable time standards and efficiencies as established by industry standards and communicated by department leadership.
  • Housekeeping – ALWAYS maintain a safe, clean and productive work environment including 5-S areas.
  • Problem Resolution – Efficiently and effectively identify problems with equipment / systems, determine the root cause and take corrective action.
  • Quality – meet or exceed quality standards on all work that is performed and recognize quality as a key element of customer satisfaction and meeting business goals.
  • Works with planner to provide information for timely, accurate parts or service procurement.
  • Maintain professional relationship and communications with leadership, coworkers, customers, and vendors.
  • Responsible for identifying parts and services required to support repairs.
  • Perform any other reasonable request or task as determined.
  • Follow all Plant and Departmental Rules.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, be on call, and come into the facility within the scope of union agreement.
  • Requirements :

  • Must possess EPA Universal / R410A License.
  • Minimum 6 years in service trade as HVAC technician.
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and sequence of operations to diagnose proper operation of HVAC equipment.
  • Must have ability to install new HVAC systems.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot controls programming and be able to modify and install controls programming on obsolete or unconnected systems.
  • Must be able to diagnose electrical and mechanical faults for HVAC systems.
  • Must have the ability to research information on various pieces of equipment, making use of manuals, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Must have ability to recover, reclaim, and recycle refrigerants, while adhering to site and industry standard protocols.
  • Must be able to align direct and indirect mechanical drive components.
  • Must be able to program, troubleshoot, and repair all HVAC control systems.
  • Must have ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, isolate, repair or replace all associated components of direct expansion systems.
  • Must have the ability to verify, calibrate, troubleshoot, repair or replace all control system components from source through end devices.
  • Must be knowledgeable about chillers systems and their operation
  • Must have the ability to clean HVAC systems with the purpose of ensuring units are operating efficiently and safely.
  • Must be able to fabricate or coordinate fabrication of ventilation parts.
  • Have the ability to Responds to emergency situations during or after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars, as assigned for the purpose of conveying and / or gathering information required to perform job functions.
  • Must be able to make use of computer programs such as Microsoft Office Suite and KMC software as an example.
  • Be able to effectively communicate with others.

    Physical Requirements :

  • Climb, squat, twist and bend to accomplish necessary repairs.
  • Be able to fit and not be afraid of working in tight spaces.
  • Ability to walk / climb to remote areas of the plant.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Purpose

    The Bradenton HVAC Department works in a team environment to maintain and operate the critical Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning equipment and infrastructure that supports all plant operations. These include air conditioning units, ice machines, refrigeration systems, water coolers, cabinet coolers, or any other device that may use freon or glycol as a refrigerant.

  • Responsible for maintaining, repairing and troubleshooting systems to ensure reliability, efficiency and meet all local, state and federal regulations.
  • Safety

  • Ensure compliance with all safety rules, procedures, policies, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Must maintain all required training. (Safety, OSHA, Powered Lift, and EPA as examples)
  • Proactively and aggressively address safety gaps.
  • Participate in department safety audits and department walk-throughs.
